Help with an invention
My friend and I have an idea for an invention, actually its just an application of something that already exsist for something else. I was wondering if anyone knows what steps someone needs to take to get a patent on an invention. If you have any experience with this sort of thing that would be greatly appreciated.

The process usually involves hiring an attourney and paying a lot of $$$. You'd have to make sure it's patentable, you write up disclosure or patent application where you state your claims in the invention, and the patent attourney trys to defend them in the patent app, as far as I know.

Check with an attorney who specializes in patent law. I wouldn't be surprised if some offer to do the work "for free" if they get a cut of future profits. I know that's how those "inventors companies" (the ones you see on TV, saying "call now for your free information book!") work, but maybe you can get a better deal elsewhere.
Of course, if you have the bucks and are willing to invest, then just pay the lawyer for the service and keep whatever you make.
