Graduating Optics Major with a BS from University of Rochester Advice/Jobs?!
As the title says I'm going to be a new optics graduate witha BS from University of Rochester. Anybody have connections/advice/jobs?
|
i'd check with the alumni association and/or the job placement/career center at your school.. they will be the best connections for you..
|
Yup have done so. And I've a prospective job pretty much lined up.
Being as the optics community was so small I was mainly curious to see if anybody on the forum was in the loop. Then again more networking/job offers aren't discouraged ^^ |
What is a BS in optics, anyway?
Are we talking like optomometry? Fiber optics? I didn't know such a degree existed. :) |

To put it really generally, the understanding of light. Sounds kinda lame, but you can go into so many branches of science.
From ECE-electroptics, BME-endoscopes..medical instruments, Physics..lasers Fiber optics, fusion processes, ANY type of imaging system (run of the mill digital camera/ reconnaissance/satellites/copy machines), anything illumination (your car headlights), etc. It's a pretty small program. Only 2 undergrad programs. Rochester,NY and Tuscon,Az |
As another hailing from Rochester AND from Arizona ... Kodak. Xerox. If you haven't hit the Big Two, Sue U of R, heh.
Are there any professional organizations for Optics? That would give you networking footfolds. |
Go for a cool synchrotron gig. Those guys have money lying around. They need someone like you to push a shovel around and pick up all of those government grants.
|
You could always go into a PhD program and try to become an X-ray crystallographer..
Man.. tis painful tho! : ) Someday I will get good crystals.... someday |
Fuck me, you guys are sending light BACKWARDS?
If this is the case, you don't need us to find you a job, you need to explain to us the practical implications of this discovery... LINKY Another LINKY |
