Glue on Side Mirrors? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I backed between a dumpster and a mailbox knocking off both my side mirrors. I WAS looking and didn't see the mailbox. I managed to do this without it even touching either side of the car! Is there any kind of glue that will hold the mirrors on? The autoparts store did not know of any. They said because of the wind etc. Nothing would hold it on. I figure it is worth a try to glue them back on. Themirrors are not broken.

Well, you could try the website This to That (Glue Advice). I didn't know if the parts are plastic or metal, so I didn't find the results.

Other than that, I have no useful advice, but I'm impressed with your aim!

Oh, I also see that you just joined us here at TFP. How did you decide that we would be the people who could help you out?

I googled how to glue on mirrors. Looks like a useful site to me. I'll probably use it alot. The mirrors have a plastic housing with plastic fasteners in the door(that's what broke).

instead of gluing them on, which will never be as strong as it should, and you'll probably never get them on straight, go down to the local junkyard. You can probably get the mirror assemblies pretty cheap, and side mirrors are VERY easy to put on.

Do you have to take the door apart to put them on? I have the mirrors still attched to the car (hanging inside the window) so I thought it might be worth trying to glue them. I called a replacement mirror place and they told me that their new ones have to be painted and then you stick them on with some kind of double-sided tape. If I could just get the tape then I could reattach the original mirrors and not have to go to the trouble of having them painted. Any suggestions?

waaaal it kinda depends on the mirror. Most modern mirrors bolt on - you bolt 'em on from inside the car. You usually don't have to disassemble the whole door - usually it's just removing a plastic cover over the inside mirror mount.

Not sure I've ever seen one mount with doublesided tape. I can't really think of a good way to do that without winding up with a wiggly mirror.

what kind of car are we talking about here?

If you do glue them, try Gorilla Glue. That is awesome stuff.
