Turn to look?
My girlfriend and I are getting married this year and were having a chat about it today. We both 'remember' (but aren't sure where from) that the groom is supposed to keep his back turned (facing forwards) when the bride enters the church until she gets to the altar. Has anyone else heard of this? I can't find much on google about it. Is it related to the 'not seeing her in her dress' superstition?

According to superstition... and there are a bazillion for weddings... (like it's bad luck to be married if the hands on the clock point downward...) but the superstition is that the groom is not supposed to see the bride in all her finery until she's walking down the aisle...
the bride arrives she might wait at the back of the church - therefor your back should be turned - until she walks down the aisle- then you can look... your queue to look would be when the congregation stands to watch her walk down the aisle. |
Personally, I think that you're missing out on something if you don't watch her come down the aisle. I can tell you that in my wedding, it was the high point of my day.

Screw tradition. How many times in your life will you see your bride walking towards you, up that aisle? Give yourself the gift of that sight.
