I used to room with a trucker who claimed he hauled kangaroo for McDonalds. He swore up and down that he was telling the truth, and I do seem to recall McDonalds getting in trouble for the type of meat they were using. But I'm pretty confident that it's all beef now, and has been for quite some time.

Just because its beef, doesnt mean its anything you would ever be able to recognize as such.

"Beef" and "meat" are two very different things.

But kangaroo seems unlikely - kangaroo meat is much, much more expensive than beef. I've had it before, and there's a noticable taste that can't compare to cow.

If it's beef, it's the lowest grade you can buy. It's nasty.

haha those are hilarious.

Its funny though. When I was a kid and worked at McD's the company that made the beef patties was called 100% Beef so thats how they could sell it as such.

I assume that all things being equal, if the cost of veggies, and other condiments were higher than beef (?), then you would get a thin piece of wilted fake lettuce, surrounded by burger...

The last time I checked, it was grade D meat. mmmm. serious. look at the packaging fine print (at least that is the way i remember it from many moons ago)

On another note, mcdonalds makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm actually wondering about their lobster roll. Considering how restricted lobsters are, I have to wonder where they get the meat. I'm betting it's recycled from people who, confronted for the first time by a giant red bug, lose their appetites and just eat the cole slaw.

I never thought about it, but you got my interest up. The closest thing I could find was:

The ads are everywhere: REAL LOBSTER. LESS THAN 4 CLAMS. Lobster at McDonald's? We had to try it. The good news is that the McDonald's lobster roll -- a simple mix of lobster meat, mayonnaise, and lettuce on a roll -- is actually quite tasty. That's probably because the main ingredient is the real thing: lobster meat from Maine. The bad news is that at $5.99, the lobster-roll value meal is the most expensive value meal on record, and "America's favorite fries" aren't a great pairing with the sandwich. Just get the roll and a beverage; the roll costs $3.99 and is available through the end of the summer at all New England McDonald's franchises.
