running zambian red lights
 

Just a small funny moment... My gardener was driving me out one night (if you must know, I hire him to drive me out so that I don't have to drive trashed)... anyway, we pull up to a red light (one of the few I assure you), he looks both ways and drives straight through.
"You know," i say, "in America if you do that they take a picture of your liscense plate and send you a ticket."

without even looking at me he says, "maybe, but in zambia if you don't do that, you get robbed."

funny, in a slightly disconcerting way

Here's another true story, though not as funny... In every american embassy across the globe there is a detachment of Marine Security Guards MSG to guard the chancery... there was a group of these marines visiting Zambia, when they got carjacked by three guys with AKs... the marines calmly stepped out of teh car... then proceeded to beat the shit out of their hijackers, shot them in the kneecaps and drove off... nice guys, but quite frankly, i dont blame em
