Three Preachers

Three preachers and their wives, an Episcopalian, a Methodist, and a Baptist, are all involved in a horrible car accident together, and they all arrive at the Pearly Gates together.

St. Peter steps out and asks to help them, and the Episcopalian steps forward with his wife and introduces himself. "I am an Episcopalian minister, " he explains, "and this is my wife. We were just killed in an accident, and we'd like to go into heaven, if you don't mind."

St. Peter stops him and announces that no matter who he is, he still must check the Great Book to be sure. St. Peter looks at the book, and then slowly looks up at the minister. "We can't let you in here, because we have you down for a mortal sin."

The Episcopalian pleads, "But I've been a minister almost my whole life. What did I ever do wrong?"

St. Peter responds, "It says in the book here that although you never acquired a fortune, you still lusted after money in your heart. It says that even though you never made much money, you still lusted after money so much that you wouldn't get married until you met a woman named 'Penny.' I'm sorry, but we can't let you in here."

As the Episcopal and his wife slowly walk away, the Methodist and his wife step forward to try and get into heaven. St. Peter checks the Great Book again, and says, "I can't believe it, but we've got you down for a mortal sin, too."

The Methodist is stunned, and he asks, "What did I ever do?"

St. Peter says, "Although you never drank any alcohol, you still lusted after booze in your heart. It says that even though you never drank a drop, you still lusted after alcohol so much that you wouldn't get married until you met a woman named 'Sherry.' I'm sorry, but we can't let you in here."

As the Methodist and his wife walk slowly away, the Baptist minister turns to his wife and says, "Come on, Fannie. You and I might as well leave now."
