I think it is supposed to go: Some animals have souls, which allows them to have emotions, and love. The "spirit" is actually what humans supposedly have sole (no pun) possession of, and that's what allows us to see the glory of God. How it got down to just souls and Heaven, I don't know. I've heard that in church, and I was raised catholic....YMMV
