TFer is a Funny MFer (standup)
Well, if we are going to tell jokes, I might as well show off some of my jokes. I have been doing some open mic nights and after a couple of months I've been doing better and better. People like my jokes and even know of them (I think if someone is able to recite your joke, you did something right)
Anyways, this video is from one of those open mic nights. Tell me what you guys think, what was funny, what I need improvement on, anything. I know I go as fast as a hummingbird on coke but I'm trying to slow my pace down! That's it guys! Thanks for watching! I think the embed worked! Sweet! (END EDIT!) |

Your material's really good. The FBI agent who eats terrorists and shits Republicans is brilliant.
The thing about your delivery isn't the speed, per se. The speed is a symptom. The issue is, your delivery has no room in it for the audience. It's REALLY well-rehearsed. Perhaps over-rehearsed. It sort of feels like you're delivering it to yourself, like you've done it in the mirror a few thousand times, and now you're on auto-pilot. There's not much connection with the audience, if you follow me. So when the audience wants to respond to a joke, you're not aware of it and you've already moved on. If you listen to pros, even ones who talk fast, they're tuned into the audience enough to let a joke land, let them respond, and let it start to fade, THEN top it with the next joke. So, they do give more time, but my advice isn't "give more time". My advice is, get connected with the audience, and you'll find yourself giving more time naturally, among other things. My two-cents from a non-comic who has quite a lot of public speaking experience. Hope it helps. |

I pore over Skymall every time I fly. It amazes me to no end. If I ever need a $700 putter/flask/world calender clock all in one, I know where to go. And I'd like it to also vacuum, but that's another $250.
