Problem is, most dogs I've played fetch with won't QUITE bring back the ball. They'll bring it back NEAR me, but not actually TO me. Maybe they think that's part of the game... Anyway, I'm skeptical that any of those dogs would actually get clear on where the ball has to go to get it to shoot.

Dogs do that to test you. When they drop it near you, they make you get the ball and thereby dominate you. To correct this behaviour, repeat the command to the dog to retrieve the ball and make sure the dog brings the ball to you. Witholding play also sends the message to the dog as well. Patience and time will serve you well. Good luck.

That looks like a good machine for handicapped people but ideally, it is best for the owner to actually play with the dog themselves as the bonding is more effective.

I read that and thought "there's no way handicapped people would chase after a ball", and then I realised....

D'oh!

My dog is overly excited about fetching which is quite surprising since he was run over as a pup and his back legs are malformed. A good rule of thumb around my house is not to toss anything on the ground because the dog will pick it up and bring it back to you. It doesn't matter if it's a ball or a 6ft long iron pipe, if it leaves your hand, he's going to grab it and carry it around near you until you take it from him.

My problem is that I have a lab and a border collie/lab mix. Toss the ball and the lab runs off to fetch the ball and the borderX will fetch the lab. Much brawling and entertainment ensues and eventually when the borderX decides he needs to bring back the ball he brings it back. It is pretty humorous to watch.

This sounds like the dog just wants to please you. I think this is one of the reasons why people like dogs so much. BTW that vid is hilarious, maybe this should be in tilted technology too!
