The Definition of Awkward is...

Your Mother asking you what a "MILF" is.

Which has happened to me. Also very bad: my mom asking me what "teabagging" is.

Aww Jesus, I'd just lie. "It's when you put a bag of loose tea on hot water, like this:"

"Teabagging": When one brings teabags to work, as opposed to buying a tea or coffee on the way, with the intention of making tea at work. Often done as a matter of personal tea preference or as a way to save money. "I've decided to start teabagging it to work; they never have my kind of tea at Starbucks." (Ref: "brownbagging.")

I think feigning ignorance is the best policy in these situations, regardless of the follow-up question.

I used to work with a sales manager who had periodically to deal with a very camp gay customer, and every time he went to visit he'd tell the office that he'd made ure he had his felching spoon ready.

I had to interupt and explain that to a junior member of staff, as I overheard her start to say it to the customer over the phone. That was interesting.

Well if we're going to talk about saying awkward things around parents and family...

I returned from a 7 month Navy "West-Pac" once just in time for Thanksgiving dinner... where I promptly asked my grandmother to "pass the fucking mashed potatoes, will ya?"

Yeah, real quiet there for a while.
