Post your NintendoWiFi Friend Code
Hey,
If any of your are interested in a go-round in MarioKart DS or whatever online games i'm playing, you're welcome to look me up. My friend code is: 240577 656768 If there are enough NDS'ers out there... we should start a Mario Kart tournament thread.

I do not wanna hi-jack but I am getting my interest picqued(sp) by this thread, I was under the impression the wi-fi only worked within like a 200 foot radius for example. Can someone clarify this for me? I might be willing to grab a DS if it actually works on a wide scale like I am thinking now.

montana,
there are two modes of wireless play... 1) DSs can be linked in an ad hoc network with other units within their actual wireless range (this is the mode your were thinking of) 2) using the NintendoWifi network, the DS can use the 802.11b signal that almost all wireless routers use. game traffic is carried over the internet via nintendo's free service. you can play opponents worldwide wherever you can find a wireless signal. it isn't well-fleshed out yet... certainly not like playing an established pc fps our mmorpg. however, it is free and works flawlessly doing things it has used for so far. for the price, i don't think you can beat the value of a ds+mariokartds combo... let us know if you get one.

thanks for the clear up, this really sounds interesting, I have always been a Gameboy supporter along with an avid Mario Kart fan (I bought a GC last summer used just to be able to play that double dash)
I will keep this topic bookmarked so I can hit it back up if I do decide to grab a DS.

I'm glad to see a thread about this here. They won't let you post friend codes on the Nintendo boards because it's considered "personal information"
It's not like anyone besides a Nintendo employee can track you. Anyway, here's my friend code. 330771 953456 On a side note, people on the Nintendo boards are putting a red N in the corner of their icon to help identify each other. Anyone want to start a TFP symbol? |

ok, got my bundle along with Nintendogs: Lab & Friends, and I just picked up Castelvania: Dawn of Sorrow
I do not have a wireless network setup here at home, and the only place you can get the Nintendo USB WiFi adapter is through them until March '06 when the new Metroid hits. I might have to amble my sorry ass on over to Mickey D's tomorrow and get down on some gaming and look for you guys. I have like 4 McD's all within a 5 minute drive from me so getting a hotspot should not be a problem.

I have a DS but still waiting for my USB adaptor to arrive.... are you guys telling me, however, that you can only play Mario Kart DS with people whose friend codes you have? I know it works that way for Animal Crossing, which I also have, but I thought that was only so strangers don't come in and chop down all of your trees. What's the point for doing it this way with Mario Kart?
I'll post my friend code as soon as I get it...

With Mario Kart you can play regional, worldwide, with friends, or against rivals (whatever that is) . For regional and worldwise you get set up randomly with people in your region or around the world who ar waiting to play at that time. It seems to work ok.
And it takes a while for the USB connector to arrive, took well over a week for me.

By having a decentralised system, Nintendo have made it so anyone, anywhere can get online and play, anytime (wifi depending). While that makes things inconvenient for us nerdier types, it opens massive doors for the casual market. For example, some 3 million people have used Nintendo WiFi, vs some 1.5 million for XBox live.
