Backwards Compatibility on Xbox 360.
"Microsoft has finally announced the list of the 213 Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360 at launch. A software emulator is required for each original Xbox game, which means you need an HDD for these games to work on Xbox 360. While it is expected that the list will grow in future via Live update, as of now it lacks first-party titles such as Project Gotham Racing, and other popular titles such as DOAU/X, Doom 3, Far Cry, KUF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, the Splinter Cell series, and the SW: Battlefront series."
Full list of games that can be emulated at launch. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/back...ygameslist.htm

No Splinter Cell. That's strange. I figured Halo (I & II) would be there, but games like Blinx 2 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Choas Bleeds beat out Splinter Cell?

Is MS still claiming the emulators are made not for certain games but for certain types of games. I.E. if it can work on Game A by default it'll work on Game B and Game C?

Michael Brundage who is working on the backwards compatibility has a small webpage talking about the challenge of making it work here: http://www.qbrundage.com/michaelb/pu...s/xbox360.html
It looks like the reason they're using different emulators is to get better performance out of the games. I'm sure there are 1-2 emulators out there that run Halo and Ninja Gaiden perfectly but doesn't run Tony Hawk's pro skater right or vise-versa... I dunno..

I think the list is of the games that are easy to emulate. There's no excuse for games like Project Gotham Racing, Panzer Dragoon, and Splinter Cell to not be on there. I guess the more technologically demanding the game is, the harder it is to emulate. Or something like that!

It actually makes alot of sense. Programmers made games based specifically for the GeForce card in the Xbox, using card specific calls. Now the ATI card doesn't support those. So yeah, they made some emulators to let some games run. I was expecting a handful. 200+ is pretty awesome then.

Gamestop is giving you $45 for a used xbox, which is $55 less than the deluxe xbox360 compared to the core system. So, don't trade in your xbox, buy a "core" system and now you can play your old games. I remember how this was a HUGE deal to me when PS2 came out, and I've played ps1 games maybe 3 times total on my PS2. Backwards compatibility just isn't going to be that important 6 months from now when they are only making 360 games. |

I still play PS1 games on PS2, and I know I'm not alone. Backward compatibility is a huge deal, and Microsoft knows it. I didn't buy into the XBox, mostly because of space constraints. I wouldn't want to have that huge XBox taking up space when the new little one is around. I'm looking forward to the Revolution because I might be able to put away the SNES and N64 and make room for the new guys. In the mean time, we still play Perfect Dark and Super Metroid, so those systems are going nowhere.
I think I'm going to get an XBox 360 with Perfect Dark, Ninja Gaiden, and Halo. I know I can get the latter 2 for cheap.

backwards compatibility is a huge issue for many people, myself included. Like t3m3st, I still play my PS1 games a lot onthe PS2.

Also, if you buy the "core" system you can't play the old games since you need the hard drive to play XBox-1 games.
