The Warriors
Why has no one mentioned this game since release? It's such a great game. I play it whenever I feel really aggressive and want to take it out on some unsuspecting polygonal Destroyers, Hi-Hats, and Moonrunners. This game makes you part of a ruthless gang, letting you mug people, tag up a quick red "W" or get really artsy with a burner, participate in riots, loot stores, fight other gangs, demand protection money, etc etc. The best part of this game is its core: the fighting. It's just brutal. Pick up a crowbar and smash someone upside the head. Or break a brick off someone's head. The combos are cool, and the power move combos are even cooler. I also love smashing my opponents' heads into walls.
Rockstar delivers another great game; I'm just surprised they didn't spend much money on advertising it. Either they thought it'd sell itself, or they thought the movies audience was too much of a cult following. I loved the movie, but, and I say this is a first, I like the game BETTER. The movie is classic, but this game is SOOO much fun. Who else has tried it? |

I want to try it, but from the commercial i saw, the game didnt really lead to anything.. I think the advertising that they did do didnt really explain what the game was about.. The way that you describe it, it sounds like State of Emergency, that game was fun for about 15 mins.. but this one sounds like an improved version, I think im gonna give it a shot

A friend of mine recently got it and he says its a hell of a lot of fun!
If you've seen the film, the game starts before the events in the film, leading up to the events of the movie. I'm gonna wait and borrow it off of him when he's done with it tho

I met a guy who was in this movie. When I was in high school, we did West Side Story, and hired a professional stage combat guy to choreograph the Rumble and the Prologue. The professional said that he was in The Warriors, and that his character died via a baseball bat to the head. He did a great job teaching us the moves.
I never saw the movie, though. Not my genre.

This game is a prequel to the movie. At least rent it. If you don't like it, I'll send you a refund for the rental. But that's only for you (Seanland); I can't afford to make that risk for everyone. |

Yes, the warriors seem to be one of the underrated games out there this season. I only say this because most of the kiddies/casual gamers would pick it up thinking it would be something like GTA. I mean if you go visits the gamefaqs boards on this game, you will find a ton of topics bitching about how it’s nothing like GTA. Sadly this is how the other games Rockstar games get treated. I mean, red dead revolver was a good game but didn't get much notice. I see this happing to this game too.

I only heard about the movie because I read a thread somewhere about them making it into a game. Shortly after that I found the movie at Best Buy for like $8, and it became one of my favorite movies ever.
I'm waiting on an expense check so I'll have the spending money to get the game, but I'm already excited about playing it. Everything I've read about it makes me want to play it, and this thread is no different. Good call guys! |

Best part about it is it tells the entire backstory. It even tells how the warriors were formed and how certain members joined up. But ya got ta unlock EVERYTHING!!!
Not just a prequel. It takes you through the movie as well. Awesome. Love it, though. Love it. |

This is a great game, lots of fun. I can't even remember the last good beat 'em up that was released. The game is just so well done with the perfect atmosphere. You can mug people, steal car radios and rob stores. The fighting itself is well done, more complicated than just x,x,a and there's even interaction with your other warriors. If one of your buddies has an enemy in a grab, you can go up and do a special powerful attack that usually kills in one hit. As for your gang, their AI is great. I've never seen a warrior get hung up on something, if you sprint and jump over a fence they'll all do the same. The action is also appropriately brutal, there are heavy attack you can do that smash someone's face into a wall or throw some heavy punches to their face. The characters also show their damage through cuts and bruises on their body. So go get it! It's a great game, especially if you like the movie.

Glad to see more people liking this game. Yeah you definitely gotta unlock EVERYTHING. I played through up until the movie begins on my first file, but I kept letting other people play it so none of the objectives got done. I'm running through it again, trying to beat every single objective. I know I've missed some already, but I'll come back to 'em after I beat the game. So far I've unlocked Spoiler: handcuff keys, actual handcuffs, weapon vendors, the Coney Stalker, that "Ampephibian" costume or whatever its called, and a bunch of rumble modes and flashback missions. I'm now defending the Coney shops from The Destroyers. I'm really lovin' this game.
