Gonna buy a PSP.

Ok, so I've decided due to some shopping around, constantly going back to wanting a PSP all the time; to actually buy a PSP. So I posted a thread earlier about what game I should get, now lets turn the tides and change it up. For a PSP... what, in you alls opinions, are the MUST HAVE games for PSP, already released or GOING to be released (preferably soon) lemme know.

I <3 RPGS

I'm probably just going to keep typing until I run out of things to babble about and see how many people actually read this. I once ran down a hill, fell down and hurt my elbow; my mom said I would be ok, she kissed it and made it all better. I've run out of things to say now, so if you have read this whole thing, congratulations you get a gold star!

To be honest, I think the PSP game library is somewhat lacking at this point. Other than Untold Heroes, I don't believe there are any other RPGs out.
Here are the games I have now.
Lumines - Great for long layovers
Burnout - Lots of carnage
Tiger Woods Golf

I'm much more excited about the games that are coming out soon

Grand Theft Auto
Legend of Heroes - RPG thats due out in October
Popolocrois - Traditional RPG due out in November
Virtua Tennis

Wipeout I guess, if thats your thing. Lumines is great. Other than that, considering the price increase on games, I'm gonna say theres nothing else happening with the PSP for a while. I'm really upset I bought one.

Well, it seems that I am the only one with a RPG here - rightly named by lj8 - called Untold Legends.

It's okay. Never being a big RPG fan myself, I was hesitant to dive into this game, but I did it anyway and was suprised.

Although it didn't want to make me play when I was doing other stuff - not like a good game - it soaked me in when I did play and the long loading times (10 seconds + very close together) didn't stop me because of the good loading artwork.

It has good monsters, quests and rewards.

My only gripes where that;

1. Only ad-hoc wireless play. It would have made a good MMORPG.

2. Limited world - there's only one shop in the whole thing which items just randomly got better as you got better.

3. Repetetive quests - you feel like you did this thing before. Although the plot behind it may be good - it's still 'go through caverns, kill 70 creatures, kill boss'. It's idea of plot growth was 'go through level, kill 70, what! there's no boss, but there is another level, repeat'.

4. Unimaginative powers. Actually over all, no real innovations.

All in all it was okay for someone who wasn't a big fan of RPGs. A good solid start to the PSP.

Wipeout and Grand Theft Auto

Wipeout, as was previously mentioned, is an amazing racing game. In fact, if you like racing games, you'll love your psp. And I'll second the post that lumines is great, but it tends to only be great for a certain period of time, then you just stop wanting to pick it up for a while.

Also, they just announced that the new GTA for the PSP will have mulitplayer- both ad-hoc and internet. That makes me totally excited.

totally addicted to Minna no golf Portable (hot shots golf?) got it the same day as I got the system and it's still the one I play the most. Wipeout is also good and I'm really looking forward to GTA:LCS.
Right now I'm currently on the fence about Winning 11 soccer and Guilty Gear. Both look good, but which one is best....
also, games or not, it's an all in one wonder device, with a 1gb card you can watch a whole lot of video on the train, which is great for killing the long journeys. wireless internet is good too, and I also am thrilled by the fact I can pop the memory stick duo out of my camera straight into the machine for instant picture viewing goodness.
once version 2.0 gets cracked open I'll be using it for emulation as well! all in all, well worth the 200$

(well, it needed a 1GB card to do all that stuff, so make it 300$. still, I'm not broke, so who cares?)

I might have to get a PSP for GTA:LCS, because I heard it had multiplayer... Brings back memories of when I used to play the GTA1 over a LAN with one of my friends around eight years ago...

Also, if SquareEnix are making original RPG's for PSP, I'm definitely going to have to buy it... Until then though, I think my GBA is fine for me... GBA reminds me of the golden age of video games, while PSP kind of reminds me of when all of the games started turning into third-person 3D polygonal platform games, a genre that lost its novelty quick for me. I'll probably own a PSP eventually though, it's so beautiful looking... Just needs some games that I'm interested in playing.

PSP is great, emulation is amazing. PM if you don't know about the wonderful downgrader to 1.50 for emulation fun.

for CyCo, PSP can play all games you want, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Neo Geo Pocket, etc etc. Commodore 64 even!

Lumines is great, as well as Mercury.

I don't play any games on mine except those two because I'm always hacking away on my PSP. Currently part of a larger group porting Linux to the PSP.

I know about the PSP having emulators, and it's pretty awesome, but I hate reading about how sony's trying to squash the homebrew firmware so nobody can use homebrew apps... and then certain games not working if you're not using sony's latest firmware, it just seems like a confusing mess to me.

Working at a video game store for the past year has shown me that if you're a gamer, that doesn't mean you're computer literate or technically inclined. I had quite a few PSP owners ask me how to do homebrew on the PSP and if you don't know what a zip file is, or hell, if you don't know how to find the stupid link on a site that says "PSP Tutorials", you're not going to do homebrew.

With that fact, I'd say less than 10% of PSP owners actually go ahead with homebrew mods, and of course, it's those people who are posting on sites like this

There was a point to this post, but I lost it. Bah. I'll be back

the downgrader lets you upgrade back to 2.00 anytime you want. I have the 32 MB stick just as a downgrader, and then I have the 2.00 update on my 1.00 Gig stick. It works well that way.

Oh, and there is a 2.01 firmware upgrade now, which has the sole purpose of closing the .tif exploit.

Only PSP gripe i have its been out for a long time now and still very limited game selection - compared to say gameboys.
This long after release there would be 2 or 3x the number of games for a gameboy

*cough* hasn't the basic GameBoy system been out for nearly 20 years? And the PSP has been out for approximately a year in Japan?

*ahem* although I agree with you...
