Dreamcast emulator

I saw one that sounded really cool, its called Chankast. Only problem is getting the Dreamcast bios files. Now I would never ask for help finding dreamcast bios, knowing that would be against the rules of this forum. I would also never ask you to email them to me at elizabeth.jones@mchsi.com. So, do not worry, I won't ask. I would also say if you get this emulator it should be used for demo purposes only, and I am positive no one here on this board would ever dream of trying to play some ILLEGAL ISO they downloaded for it. So, for hypothetical purposes, this is a neat little program. If you do play games, play the ones you own. With the program you can play your games right off the CD. However, like I said before, you would need the bios and they are hard to find.

sneaky. I've had no luck getting the bios either. I'd love to have DC games on my laptop to go...

I agree wholeheartedly, it was just a little before its time. I mean, we know its good because after the system died out look at all the games that got ported over to the other systems. My favorites were:

Skies of Arcadia
Grandia II
House of the Dead II(it was good for one play through)
Soul Calibur
Shenmue
Beserker
Powerstone 1 & 2
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (who didn't love raising those little Chao things, they were so cute) :p
Phantasy Star (this was my first really good experience with online games...at least it was until everyone started hacking items and shit)
Crazy Taxi
Jet Grind Radio
NBA 2K1

I sold mine to raise funds for my ps2. :(

Wingless 09-22-2005 03:11 PM

Hehe I got a Dreamcast for free, and a few weeks later I got a bunch of games for free as well ;)

Awesome system. I love it.

Xiangsu 09-22-2005 08:51 PM

The graphics are about the same as the ps2, the games were just as good. It came out so early that when Gamecube, ps2, and xbox came out people gave up on dreamcast because they thought it was old and not as good...even if that was not true. One thing about dreamcast was it had better online than ps2 by far, and even xbox in some ways. I used to use it to get on the internet and surf the web because it was faster than the old ass mac I had at the time. I have a deep love for my dreamcast, sometimes I still whip it out and play with it.

i have a dreamcast... been playing thru skies of arcadia again... good game...
so how would i rip a bios file so i can play the emulator on my computer?

smackson 09-22-2005 10:02 PM

I really liked the Dreamcast and the few RPGs they had were excellent. I also really liked the NFL2k series(the reason I bought the DC), and now both are obsolete.

smackson 09-22-2005 10:06 PM

Have you looked at www.dcemulation.com

JStrider 09-23-2005 05:23 AM

Do any high street stores in the US sell Dreamcast games still?

Various retailers here have pre owned copies for cheap prices. There always seems to be loads of copies of the same title e.g Tomb Raider...

djflish 09-25-2005 07:46 AM

I just bought a Dreamcast from a car boot sale.
I got the console, 2 controllers, memory card and 4 games for £10!! Cheap as chips

Very good deal

Best at my local car boot is the console with three or four games for £30.

You have done well there. Now head to the Bay and stock up on the cheapies.

Dreamcast is probably the most underrated system I know of. I only know one other person who has one. Everyone else either always wanted one, or thought it was stupid and that it killed Sega.

Dreamcast was a gamble. It was ahead of it's time, and people were sceptical. It was the first time we didn't know how many bit's it had... "Dual 64, wtf, is that 128?" I know I stayed away from it because of Sega's recent track record with the Saturn and the 32x.

The games were good, and the ports looked better, but it couldn't beat out the PS1.

My first port of call is going to be my local Cash Generator, they always have hundreds of games for about £2 each. Then i'll be visiting the bay...

u can get dc bios files if u know where to look, need them?

Gabbyness 09-26-2005 10:58 AM

Powerstone 1 & 2

YES! Absolutely awesome.

Please don't forget our good friend Virtua Fighter 3. And Worms Armaggedon. And Mars Matrix. And Ikaruga.

Not that VF3 is bad, just that by a wide concensous Soul Calubur is considered better.
Worms Armaggedon is better played on PC
Mars Matrix can be emulated on CPS2 (rom is only 20mb as opposed to 300+mb on DC)
Ikaruga, that is the one game you must play if you like shooters. Emulation on chankast is very smooth. The gameplay mechanic is just awesome. The only problem is that you can not see some of the bullets on level 2, but with some good estimation, you should not loose more than 2 ships from it.

Ah but DC Mars Matrix is way superior, since you can buy stuff with the points you earn. There's a super neat shop where you can buy alternate BGs, more lives, more ships per life, and strategy videos of the levels.

And yes, Soul Calibur is probably a better game overall than VF3, but that doesn't make VF3 any less of a game.
