Have you seen Advent Children?
There has to be at least a handful of people here who have either imported it from Japan already or who have downloaded a pirated version. I'm not admitting to anything ::cough:: but let's just say that at this very moment, I have the opportunity to watch it. My brothers have seen it, and all my friends have seen it. My friends liked it, while my brothers thought it was an insult to FF7. My brothers and I tend to be very like-minded, so I'm really hesitant to watch it. Have you seen it, and if so, what did you think?
One of my friends is going to buy it on DVD when it actually comes out here in the US, and I'm thinking I'll probably just wait until then to watch it. Last edited by Stiltzkin; 09-16-2005 at 11:40 PM.. |

yes.
It's an excellent action oriented followup to FFVII It wasn't particularly big on story, and wasn't even near as deep as any of the games (as movies rarely tend to break skin deep) but if you are content to watch the old crew come back and kick some ass with some crazy special effects that would have broke the cash camels backs to produce in "REALITY" then yeah, you'll have fun. |

I have a copy that I downloaded, but I have yet to watch it.
I never finished FF7 (didn't even get past disc 1). And I am hearing reviews that go from "OMG THIS MOVIE IS TEH AMAZING" to "jeez, what the hell is this crap?". I guess it's best to go in with no expectation.

I haven't seen it, and I'm becoming very tempted to download a fansub of it. There's no excuse that SquareEnix can give me that will explain why there still isn't a North American release date.

Don't expect a deep storyline, but other than that I thought it was great. Seeing such lifelike characters move in ways that no wirework could do made for some very impressive fights, and seeing all of the characters back together and kicking ass was great. I think if you have realistic expectations and don't expect it to compete with the 50+ hours of story in the game during the two hours of the film, you'll come away satisfied.

I didn't enjoy it at all. It is a cheesy movie made for fanboys. Actually, it's rather insulting for fanboys. I give it thumbs-down. The graphics are excellent, but that's about it. The weak plot and super incredibly cheesy fight scenes (let's make everything FAST so it looks cool!!!!!) almost destroy the movie. And ..........
Spoiler: They way they brought back Sephiroth damn near made me laugh out loud. Can anyone say crowd-pleaser?

This movie is fan service, pure and simple. The point is to put all (yes all) of your favorite characters back in familiar settings doing familiar things and let things rip for an hour and forty minutes. Plot and character development were totally outside considerations. You're supposed to know the characters and not care much more than to see them tear it up.
That being said, if you didn't like how the fight scenes looked, I can certainly understand hating this movie. I thought the fight scenes looked pretty awesome and had a blast watching it and can't wait to find a copy of FFVII so I can replay it. This movie's all about the nostalgia and the visuals, and those both clicked perfectly for me. |

Omnislash, that's really all I have to say.
I give it 9/10.. it pales in comparison to the game, but it still does the characters decent justice.

I've been debating whether or not to download it, like others have said, have just heard two completely opposite opinions on it, so I didn't know if I'd be wasting my time or not.
I think I will watch it though, I loved the game, hopefully it won't be TOO bad...

I personally thought this was a very fun movie to watch, i'd give it a 7.5 / 10. The missing 2.5 is due to the missing plot. But I'm a sucker for video game movies.

The last final fantasy game i've plated was FFI for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Thief. Red Mage. White Mage. Fighter. maybe Blue Mage. you get the point. Needless to say i didn't jizz myself when i saw the CGI rendered TIFA or CLOUD. So i don't know if true FFVII fans who've beaten Sepheroth 80 times will value my opinion. I liked the movie, it was very aesthetic and pretty. Reading Subtitles sucks, period. I wish i would've waited til the dubbed version came out, but alittle late for that. The only thing this game was missing was a HUD (all you gamers know heads up display). i couldn't believe people were stabbing each other with swords and not bleeding or DYING, but i guess thats what HIT POINTS are for right? Anyway here it goes: Visual: 10,000,000,000,0000 Dialog/Voice Acting: 7 Plot: 7 (I thought it was fun, Maybe no up to the caliber of FFVII, but it's 2 hours, not 80 worth of game play) Overall Coolness (will I admit to having seen this movie to a group of friends): 5 (it was cool and all...alittle too anime-esque)

Dude, you're looking too much into it. Final FANTASY, sheesh. :P You have to learn to not expect anything and accept everything in the game.

9.5/10, but then I'm a fanboy. The action was awsome, all the FF references were cool (Gunblades, Omnislash, Ringtone, etc), and I thought the plot was fine, considering they only had 40 minutes to do it in (Plus an hour of action). Only thing, I watched it with some friends, and I realised how confusing it must be to people who haven't played FF7.
Spoiler: All Clouds friends turning up in the middle for no reason at all was wierd, but still cool.

I watched the better portion of it, and was pretty well pleased with what I saw. I LOVED FFVII, beat it many times over logged literally hundreds of hours on the game so I guess you could say I was the fanboy type the movie was made for. Nice to see everyone back in action and doing their thing. I did not finish it all so I am trying to avoid the spoilers from everyone above, but I do plan on getting the North American copy when it hits, which according to Amazon.com was around November?

Advent Children was a good gimmick movie, that's about all I can really say that's good about it... They bring back all of the big FF7 characters, there's lots of cool fights and special effects. Unfortunately, the story is pretty lame, and that kind of ruined the whole movie for me.
