Dungeon Siege 2: The Movie

Hard to believe there isn't a thread about this yet. Or maybe there is but it is in the entertainment forum?

Casting is Almost Complete on "Dungeon Siege"
Based on the Popular Video Game

[July 1, 2005]
Jason Statham and Ron Perlman have been cast in "Dungeon Siege," a video-game inspired movie to be directed by Uwe Boll ("House of the Dead," "Alone in the Dark").

Statham will play the lead character, Farmer, the story's hero. Perlman ("Hellboy") co-stars as Farmer's friend and companion, Norick. Also joining the cast of "Dungeon Siege" are Matthew Lillard as Duke Fallow, Burt Reynolds as King Konreid, John Rhys-Davies as the court sorcerer, Leelee Sobieski as Muriella, and Kristanna Loken as Elora (the Whip Woman), an enchanted tree-like creature whose support proves critical to Farmer in the end.

"Dungeon Siege" is based on the popular video game of the same name and follows Farmer on his mission to save his wife and child. An evil army is rampaging across the land, bent on destroying everything in its path and threatening an otherwise peaceful world.

In a statement issued by BrightLight Pictures, director Uwe Boll said, "We're fortunate to have such a depth AND breadth of talent on this picture. So many faces with great experience, talent and audience appeal. This picture's going to be a superb showcase for their talents."

The filmmakers are still working on casting a few key parts including that of the movie's primary antagonist, Gallian, a sorcerer who has turned to the dark side of the art.

"Dungeon Siege" was adapted for the screen by Doug Taylor, David S. Freeman and Glenn Benest. Brightlight Pictures' Shawn Williamson and Daniel Clarke will serve as producers. Uwe Boll and Wolfgang Herold are executive producing the film. The behind-the-scenes team will be led by director of photography Mathias Neumann, production designer Jim Steuart, costume designers Carla Hetland and Toni Rutter, and editor David M. Richardson.
I know how we all feel about movie adaptations of games. But with this cast (bold mine), I think it might be able to be pulled off.

Or am I deluding myself?

hate to be negative, but if Uwe Boll is attached to the project, its doomed already. I woulda thought Perlman would have more sense than to work with that hack. Besides, they can't be taking this seriously if they cast Burt Reynolds in any part.

It would seem that Uwe's taint is spreading across more video games movies.

Next on the list, Bloodrayne...

Maybe he's the only guy any studio can get to even touch a video game movie?

I think I read somewhere that although his movies are terrible, they still do well around the world so he's the guy to go to when you want a movie done about a video game. At least somebody's keeping the tradition of video game movies sucking alive.

So is this actually based on the story and characters from DS2?

Dont recognise any of that from DS1 which I took 50+ hours to complete. Mind you, it didnt really have a story so the film probably wont tie in.
