Kill Zone II Video
Having seen the video I was blown away by its awesomeness but recognized it to be CGI. IGN's editors all say that it is CGI but strangely over at gamespot they leave it open saying that it could be actually in game engine. Just wondering what you guys think about it...

I honestly think its a mix of both. I was just shown a preview of a xbox360 game where the player walks around a city, but occasionally for special events it seamlessly cuts to CGI and back again. the process is completely unnoticable and looks incredible. Thats what i think that video is.
Especially when you can see effects such as texture ripping and dissapearing vehicles that they wouldnt need to do in a pure CGI video. But surely this has already been discussed

It's official: this movie is in-game footage, but it is ran on an "advanced superconsole." The creators of the Killzone 2 footage have confirmed this to be in-game footage, end of story. It is not CGI art. Most media enthusiasts expect the PS3 to play Killzone 2 at 50-75% of this performance. In other words, it will look just as good, but the framerate will probably be 30-45 FPS instead of the blazing 60 FPS in the movie. This isn't bullshit either -- the actual game developers explained this in an E3 interview.
Some predict that by the time the PS3 debuts the developers will be able to harness enough power out of the PS3 to make it look exactly like that video, but right now they're still working on it. -Lasereth

Las, I know you're a reliable source of information, but do you have a link to an article or anything like that?
As badass as those graphics looked, I won't be expecting that on launch day. Maybe 6 months to a year into the console's cycle, then we'll be seeing KillZone 2 graphics "standard" on games.
