Super Monkey Ball Dilemma
Bit of a dilemma:
Do I buy Super Monkey Ball DX for the XBOX or get the two individual versions for the Gamecube? At first I was definitely gonna get the XBOX release however after reading a review today I am not so sure. Apparently the visuals are noticeably worse and the controls "almost game ruining". Any of you compared the two yet? |

I would rent the game and then decide afterward

I've been thinking about getting this for my Xbox myself, but the reviews keep telling me to wait. Definitely a rent it before you buy it situation.

I agree with spectre, having played the GC versions, I would try the xboxen and if it floats your boat, buy it, if not get the GC versions.
Also, leave lots of room in your schedule, when we first got this game, my wife and I played for 7 hrs staright... making it the first time she had played more than an hour at once. Alas, this was shattered a coupla months later, because we got Animal Crack.. I mean Crossing. One more thing I must mention about Monkeyball... a friend who generally detests video games was waaaaay into SMB, we asked why she liked it, and her classic answer was "it has two of my favorite things, monkeys and balls."

I have SMB2. It's pretty fun and has a good concept, but damn it'll drive you mad.
Then there are the levels that you can only beat if you're LUCKY. Like there will seriously be NO method at all whatsoever to beating it. For example... the launchers level in SMB2 (the big big tower w/ the things that launch you forward)... the thing is, there's no surefire way to line yourself up properly to get up the tower. THEN you gotta find the rotating goal and make sure you fall through it at the right spot. Another level has a big spider looking thing with legs rotating a series of rings. Each ring has a gap between it and if you fall, you die. The thing is, the goal is attached to one of these spinning rings, so you have to wait 30 seconds and just hold forward and hope the bounces and spins push you in the right direction enough to hit the goal. It kinda sucks that a few of these levels have no strategy or method to beating em, because you'd be in the 3rd world and on this level anywhere from a few tries to days at a time. (I even looked at online strategy guides and they pretty much say "hold your breath and hope you hit the goal, beause if you dont, you'll be doin this for quite a while.")
