Anyone still play Anarchy Online?
I know there are two other threads for this game, but I figured given the amount of time that has passed, we might be due for a fresh one. So; anyone else still play AO? I'm playing the free version, and I have a lvl 20 Adventurer on Rubi-Ka 1 named Rayshawn. So far it's pretty fun, but I suck at blitzing missions for some reason; keep getting killed.

OMG, I tried that piece of crap...Couldn't even stand it...over an hour and i'm only lvl 2? I think not...and the Fanta ads were a little distracting. It's hard to get into the world when there's a movie preview playing for Transporter 2...
I imagine the pay version is WAAAAAAAAY better, but I ain't risking it. I KNOW Guild Wars and WoW are moderately amusing.

I don't think the pay version is much better at all. I was in the AO beta and came and went a couple of times when they released new content and so forth, every time I've gotten sick of it after a month and quit again.

Wow you guys are pretty harsh on it. I played some odd months ago, got a shade up to level 75. It can be pretty fun, I don't know about the free version, but don't judge it on beta/when it first came out. I played then too, and quit the first month, but its had a lot of improvements since then. And whats this "risk" I hear? The thing is like 10 bucks for the original and the first expansion (or it was for me like a year ago.)

I understand why it wouldn't be your favorite game, but I don't understand the bashing. It is quite fun, especially when blitzing through missions. I've played for a couple weeks and have a level 21 Adventurer. Doesn't take THAT long to level.

This is a feeble attempt to ressurrect this thread and possibly see who else is interested in this game. I've been playing it since I started this thread, and I've been loving it. I currently have a level 46 adventurer as my main character, and then I've been trying to build up a trader and a fixer, too. I'm an applicant with a great organization called Alphastrike. They've helped me out greatly.
What I've realized is this game really starts to pick up when you interact with other people; such as teaming up, buying/selling items, helping people, or joining a great org like Alphastrike. Teaming up at Temple of Three Winds is hella fun. The main thing is you have to know what to do. You have to know how to use Clicksaver, how to use recipebot, hugemap, auno.org, aodb.info, etc. etc. so you can properly build your character up and get some sweet loot. But once you figure all that out, the game really is a blast. |

My complaint with AO is that while it is a very rich and huge world with tons of places, things to do, and loot, progression is/becomes VERY repetitive. Pre-Shadowlands leveling pretty much consisted of subway up to 13+, then Temple for 30-40 levels to 60 (mostly legionnaire runs), then 8x8 to 85-90, then Mort 'borgs until 115-120, then endless missions over and over again until 200.
Post-Shadowlands that has become random SL stuff until you're high enough to do Nascence Hecklers for 50 levels, then Chill Spiders in Elysium until you're 90+, then Ely Hecklers to 160-175 (yes, thats 70-85 levels of doing THE EXACT SAME THING), then Adonis Hecklers until 220. I was going to say that the game is min-maxed to death, but I don't think it's the players' fault. It's the fact that there's really only one viable thing to do at any given level in order to progress in a reasonable amount of time. I'm glad you're having fun with it... I definitely spent a year or two of my life doing AO more than anything else, but I'm never going back to it unless they start to offer it completely for free. I MIGHT be persuaded to give it a look if that happened, but other than that, no.

well it is completely free, at least without the expansions.
you can download it right off the website and no fees to play. The expansions are also free to get but then and only then do you need to pay monthly

Actually the expansions aren't free to get. They all have their own initial charge, but I believe the monthly charge stays the same. At least I believe that's how it is. I just missed a promotion to get all expansions for only $9.95. The current promotion is to get Shadowlands for free, but there's still Notum Wars and Alien Invasion. Just wanted the info to be as correct as possible; not really trying to nitpick.

I used to play it a while after it first came out, and I really enjoyed it then, but since I was jobless at the time I had to quit. Now I play WoW, but on a boring tuesday (the day WoW's servers are in maintenance), I decided to try out the free version. I don't know if I just didn't give it enough of a chance or what, but I just couldn't get back into it. I can't pinpoint it, but it just didn't seem like much fun for some reason. I would probably give it a another go if I had to quit WoW for some reason though.
