PSP 2.0 - Now with web browsing goodness!!!!

Clicky

Network Features:

* Internet Browser - Probably the biggest thing yet to come to the PSP, a web browser. The browser supports standard 4.01 HTML, but will not support Flash streaming. Although some minor bugs, you will be able to connect to any website through your wireless hotspot.
* New Network Menu - This is the new icon that will be installed on your PSP, it will act as the shortcut to the web browser.

Video Features:

* Jump Function - Jump function added (UMD Video & UMD Music)
* A-B Function - This allows you to repeat one portion of the clip.
* 4x3 size - A new size to watch videos in
* Mute - Mute function added for videos, even though a general mute function came with the original system.
* MP4 (AVC) playback - New playback format.

Music Features:

* ATRAC3plus playback - Now you can put ATRAC3plus files on your PSP.
* MP4 AAC & WAVE Support - This version will allow you to play MP4 audio (MP4's AAC format) as well as Linear PCM WAVE files.

Photo Features:

* Wallpaper Feature - Another big feature for the PSP, can you guess it? You got it, a personalized wallpaper feature.
* Photo Sharing - You can now share images with a friend using the wireless ad-hoc connection (local)
* New Formats - The PSP can now read TIFF, GIF and BMP files.

Setting Features:

* New Character SetTheme Setting
* Internet Browser Restriction Setting - Set security settings for your web browser.
* WPA Support - Don't like WEP? isn't secure enough for you? you can now access the net with WPA-PSK (TKIP.)Web Support on Keypad

I tried the browser briefly and it's much better than the Wipeout Pure hack. This should have came with the PSP out of the box. I'm just wondering why Japan gets it first. The wallpaper feature is a nice addition too. Word is this will dissable any emulators you may have and some video formats. Speaking for myself the web browser feature is well worth the sacrafice.

Edit: Now with picture goodness!!

Well, I would be losing my emulators, yes, and the ability to play games for free. I would also lose the ability to play avi's, and the potential to play DivX video. Homebrew isn't just emulators. There's folks making an entire OS for PSP. After getting past encryption and dumping the bios, it may be possible for someone other than me to make a PSP web browser homebrew app without updating. I would recommend to anyone wanting to get more out of their PSP not to update if they have firmware 1.50. Not because I want everyone to play pirated games, but because I believe the homebrew community is willing to go further into the PSP's development as a multimedia unit than Sony.

This update gives us a new video format. It is, from what I understand, a proprietary Sony format. The PSP still can't play your videos at full screen.

The only reason to update would be for WPA support. I don't see any reason for Sony to have held back on the release of WPA support and the web browser. We all knew it was coming. They felt threatened, so they released it to get people away from the possibility of piracy. Next time they feel threatened, perhaps we'll see full screen video in practical formats.

cool WPA support, but I will not update until the homebrew community releases a BIOS flasher so that you could still use homebrew (which they are working on now).

I won't update either until the homebrew community will catch up to the firmware (or until the homebrew community pulls the firmware back to them ;) ).

Besides, the functionality that 2.0 brings is, for the most part, available in homebrew. A standalone web browser is out there, as well as wallpaper changing.

I've been considering updating, the web browser seems pretty cool. I"m refraining because I haven't been up date on all of the homebrew applications for the PSP. This may considerably sway my decision to stay at 1.50. Does anyone have any good resources for PSP homebrew information? I'd greatly appreciate it.
