Devil May Cry 3
Can I just say "HOLY FREAKIN SH*T BATMAN!!" Just played this game last night and I must say this is without a doubt the best game I have ever played. I have also had the pleasure of playing God of War and in its own rights a very fantastic game but, Devil May Cry 3 in my eyes is far superior in both gameplay and story. Also I am a fan of the first Devil May Cry and this new one out does the first one in every category.
Anyway I guess I started this thread to find out if I am the only one who finds this game as being so freakin awesome. I have read reviews on both and talked to people who've played both and they have all said that God of War is the superior and after playing both I have found that it is the opposite, true the level of difficulty in Devil May Cry 3 may discourage many, but to me if only enhances the game play. After playing Ninja Gaiden Hurricane pack which is "suppoesed to be" the hardest game ever and it was very difficult, but the level of difficulty in Devil May Cry 3 is steep, real steep. The steepness though makes you good, it makes you learn the timings better, it forces you to learn new bigger and better combos and when you do the "said" bigger & better it makes the gameplay look that much better as you whoop up on the baddies. Ok, that's my 2 cents, and I would like to hear your 2 cents on the subject, whether you've played either one or both, and if both which you found better and why. And if only one which one and did you like it, what did you like/dislike about it. |

The game is really awesome but it really annoyed me how it could be perfect with one addition: a save point. Devil May Cry 1 had a savepoint..why can't this one? The game is hard enough without a save point.
The combat system is possibly the best I've played with besides Ninja Gaiden. I beat Ninja Gaiden which many do consider the hardest game ever like you said but DMC3 is way harder. The graphics are amazing, the plot is cool, the bosses are awesome, the dialogue is unbelievably funny, but the game is simply lacking of a save feature. Luckily you can save your statistical progress...I just wish you could save your place in the level so you don't have to do an hour long level over and over again because the boss is so hard. Some levels literally take an hour to do or more even if you know what you're doing...dying at the boss because you couldn't figure out the pattern fast enough truly sucks. It actually made me stop playing the game. I'm a firm believer that if this game had a save point it'd be the best action game I've ever played. The difficulty makes you be a complete badass. The game actually rewards you for being a combo badass. The more insanely cool actions you do, the more damage it does, etc. If it had a save point I'd still be playing it. -Lasereth

I never played either of the first two Devil May Cry games, but I picked up the third one just because. It was fun at first, but then the novelty wore off and it reminded me of Ninja Gaiden-which I didn't like at all.The difficulty just got boring after a while, because there wasnt any real challenge.Just making the bosses hit hard as fuck doesent really impress me.
I got to boss four or five (the two guys who are blue and orange or something) got bored and went back to WoW. |

People I have spoken to say Resident Evil 4 is better than both.
I haven't seen DMC 3 or GoW, so I don't really know if its a fair comparison

DMC3 controls are hard to get used to for me atm, as I'm used to GoW. I'm playing GoW on God Mode (Very Hard) and I have to admit it is pretty ridiculous. The monsters you fight hit SO god damn hard, that sometimes it can get frustrating. I have finally arrived at Pandora's Temple so only the really hard shit awaits me now...sigh. I do have to admit though, DMC3's gameplay is much more interactive than GoW. I say they're pretty equal in fun though, but I've only played DMC3 to mission 3. Also, lack of a save point or checkpoint like in GoW could be a bit annoying in DMC3. I've seen my friend get his ass all the way to a boss and have to restart the entire mission because he had no yellow orbs.

Wow, I grabbed DMC3 and GoW off of gamefly a few months ago. I must say I was extremely disappointed with DMC after having had so much fun with the last game. Damn, I guess I must've missed something, but it just seemed wayyy too difficult and far out to pick up quickly. I guess I'll give it another go.
GoW was a let down with it's cheesy DDR type gameplay, other then that it was a lot of fun. |

I've just started playing Devil May Cry 1 again, how much does 3 differ from 1?
It can't be that much different surely.

Having beaten both games, I would definitely have to say they are close, but I'd have to say that GoW is better. I say this because though DMC3 is alot of fun, what with the different styles and such, GoW came through to create an entirely new game whereas DMC3 is just an improvement from the unfortunately dull DMC2. Also, you have to appreciate GoW's amazing graphics. That game blew me away, I only wish it went on a bit longer. I suppose DMC3 had more reply value though, with the style system, but to those people who say that DMC3 is great because its so hard, that is definitely not true. DMC3 is great because of all the fun things you can do in the game and also because Dante is such a complete badass. GoW is great because of the great story, beautiful graphics, great combo system, and sweet, sweet, ruthless kills.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition just came out. Guess what's included with it...that's right, a Save Point in every level. I should be a fucking game reviewer!! I called that fault out in my above post. I'm gonna trade in my old DMC3 for the new one at Gamestop ASAP. This is what I've been waiting for. Such a great game plagued by a lack of save points and now it's fixed.
