Xbox 360 Controller
I was looking at pics of the Xbox 360 controller, and noticed no Black or White button. How will this thing do backwards compatability when several games use every single button available on the Xbox controller?

My guess is there'll be a special edition 'Classic' controller, available for $49.99, made from new lightweight materials and a chunk of depleted uranium for that 'oldskool' feel.

The 360 is NOT backwards compatible, so they really don't need to put the black and white buttons on.

I really don't know where that came from...

As for the controller question... The two new shoulder buttons on the top, at least according to the few websites I hit, will serve as the black and white buttons for the older games.

Like 100,000 places have said it would be backwards compatible if you buy the upgraded version. It was even announced at E3 that it would be backwards compatible.

With top selling games
They haven't announced how, yet. The level of emulation needed would suggest a recompile of the software would be needed, and it would be up to the original publishers/developers to do that.

I really like the controller. It sure beats the boomerang double dildo PS3 controller. Am I only one who's not buying an Xbox 360 for backwards compatability? I want to play new games, not play old Xbox games I have already beaten. It's an added plus if it's included. When I bought my PS2 I was all hyped up to play my old PSone games it. I played maybe 2 or 3 and never put another one in since I had it.

I still play the old final fantasty games on my PS from time to time. It's nice being able to use just the one machine. Quote:

I personally think the black and white buttons are terrible on the xbox controllers, its a freaking work to reach my fingers too them and then theres only a 50% chance I'll hit the right one. The 2 shoulder buttons on the ps2 controller also suck, it's too much shoulderage, gamecube is by far my favorite controller design.
P.S playstation stop using shapes for your buttons and switch to abxy like the rest of the systems, I can never get the hang of what shape is where.

One of the reasons i'm looking forward to getting the 360 is spiffy new wireless controllers. I LOVE the Xbox triggers (first time i experienced triggers that i can remember.) and do think the shoulder buttons should be better than the b&w ones. One thing that bugs me about the ABXY/shapes thing is that when im playing with someone whose never played Xbox (they're not officially in SA so not everybody here is familiar with them) i'll say "hit X" and they'll hit A cus thats where it is on the PS. Then i'll try using colours and thats when they start getting really confused. Good things the games are so great, 90% of the time they prefer Xbox. And if they have any doubt... 4 controllers man. |
