Xbox in High Def!
Well last night I just bought a 51" Sony High def TV, and I had them throw in the Xbox cables for free. So now comes the fun of playing Xbox in high def! Do any of you currently play in high def? Do most games support it? Do you notice the difference?
Basically I'm just looking for some of your experiences in setting it up and playing it so I can know what to expect. I have heard from one or two people that it looks MUCH better. So let me know how your experiences have been. Thanks! |
OK....
I officially hate you. not in any "I wish you were dead" kind of way. Just in a "looks at my tv, thinks about yours, looks at my tv, starts to hate you" kind of way. Jealousy aside, enjoy the gaming! And just think how much more awesome it'll be this time next year with a Xbox360 and PS3 sitting next to that screen. (if you have any money left, that is...) |
I've played both Dragons Lair 3d and Enter the Matrix which are both 1080i. They looked FANTASTIC and I only have a little 30 inch HDTV. They don't have a lot of HD games out which is a bummer, but that will be changing. Here is a list of games that I know support HD: (You will not be disappointed. Or at least I wasn't :-) )
1080i: Dragons Lair 3D: Return to the Lair Enter the Matrix™ MX Unleashed™ Syberia 720p: Amped® 2 (Xbox Live™-enabled) Crash Nitro Kart™ Delta Force®—Black Hawk Down™ (Xbox Live-enabled) ESPN Major League Baseball (Xbox Live-enabled) ESPN NBA Basketball 2005 (Xbox Live-enabled) Freedom Fighters™ MVP Baseball™ 2004 NBA® 2K3 (Xbox Live-enabled) NBA® Ballers™ Sega Sports™ World Series® Baseball 2K3 SoulCalibur® II Steel Battalion™—Line of Contact (Xbox Live-enabled) Street Hoops Terminator® 3: The Redemption The Sims™ Bustin’ Out Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 Tony Hawk’s Underground True Crime: Streets of L.A. |
Last week a buddy gave me a 32" flat screen HD TV, but I'm not sure how to get the XBox in HD. Do I need to buy an adapter or something?
I'm actually kinda disappointed with the TV.. Clarity is lacking and it's a little blurry around the edges. |
The best game that I have in HD is Halo2. It looks awsome. Only complaint tho is that you will see some models get rendered or drawn a little slower, kinda distracting sometimes but the visuals make up for it.
I noticed too that Tony Hawk: UG2 will not show on screen unless you turn off HD in the Xbox video settings. That's the only game I have problems with. Oh and this is on a 36" CRT HD TV :D |

Zandos, thanks for the awesome list! I will definitely check out some of those games! I think I'm going to get the latest Splinter Cell which I'm pretty sure is available in HD. Krycheck, I can't wait to play Halo 2 in HD. That is the first game I playing once I have everything set up. I am EXTREMELY pumped for it. |
Halo 2 looks good, but it will only run in 480p resolution when connected to an HDTV. It does not run in 720p or 1080i, but will support 16:9 widescreen modes with a vertical split screen mode for cooperative play. It should still look very nice on your TV, just not HD.

speaking of high def...you should have your x-box wired (fibre optic) to something like a 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound system. You think the viuals of games liek halo 2 or band of brothers is good....in a surround sound envirionment its like you are sitting right there in the middle of the action.....its friggin amazing!!!
currrently I am running a 53" HD tv along with a 6.1 yamaha sound system (10" sub) |
Oh man. I was playing Enter the Matrix last night. In hi def. Not too bad looking, considering that the TV is in 3:4 aspect ratio, and anything in HD adds bars to the top and bottoms. But still, pretty sweet.

My friend lent me Freedom Fighters the other day (which plays in 780p), as soon as I'm done Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (which looks awesome on the TV despite not being 780p or 1080i) I plan on giving it a run. |
God, LUCKY!!!
