Matrix Online
Just curious if anyone here is playing it. While it has had a few hiccups, I must admit Im hooked, and find it at least as entertaining as City of Heroes, and Matrix has PVP from the start.
Ive also got 3 free trial keys that are good from May 20-29 during one of the live events, if anyone is interested. |
I'd love to take one off of your hands, but that could be devastating to my school work this month. :)
I signed up for the open beta, and about the time I got my character created and logged in, my power supply crashed so I never got to play. I'm dying to try out M:O or WOW, but I just know it would destroy my GPA. I should graduate at the end of this year though, and then I plan to kiss my social life goodbye and do some serious gaming. |
believe me, you aint kidding about that. Its a definite time suck. I cant remember putting this much time into a game since the original Ultima Online.
Yeah, I play that game non stop myself? What server do you all play on? I'm on Regression.
Im on Heuristic, and lovin the pvp. My nick is TheRighteousFlame.
i still have one more free trial key to give out, if anyone is interested
Change of plans, I've Migrated over to Method thanks to the server switch. :D
I think my faction and I are going to migrate to Enumerator. The way things are going Heuristic is going to be deserted after the migration.
by the by, im am now all outta free trial keys.
I've just signed up to play MxO, as several friends of mine are playing it - anyone out there still playing MxO?
I don't suppose anyone else has a trial key? I'm very tempted, but the initial cost is a bit of a hurdle for me, and I'm hearing bad things about Sony Online Entertainment.
I'm not sure how the trial keys work, but I'll look into it and see if I can get you one.
 Thanks dude!
To those playing: How does bullet time work? Do you start moving around really fast? I wouldn't imagine they'd slow down the entire server whenever someone decides to use bullet time.
Is it available/compatible with Mac?
Let's see how many I can answer at once:
No, I don't believe it's compatible with Mac. I'm pretty sure it's Windows only. As for bullet time, I'm obviously not a high enough level to know all of the tricks, but what I've seen so far: There are sprint ability you can activate, that make you run really fast - and you appear to run agent-style - even to yourself (it doesn't slow down everyone else). Also, in combat, sometimes after dealing a particularly damaging move, it'll switch to bullet time to show you hitting the other person, but then it'll snap back to normal time - it doesn't slow down anyone else, and anyone watching wouldn't know it happened. It's not something you can control. |
You'd think all MMOGs would have an easily accessible trial scheme, wouldn't you? Especially one like The Matrix, which is apparently not hitting the heights you would expect it to (with that licence).
I know lots of people are leery of the monthly fee thing, but for a game that's worth it, well... it's worth it. That's the thing though, you never know till you try. And laying out £30 for the box on a gamble is a bit much for me. |
Well, MxO is only 20$ to purchase via Direct2Drive.com, and then 15$ a month for the fee. I was a little leery of the whole D2D thing, but I couldn't find it in stores anywhere. Turns out the website hates Firefox, so you have to purchase/download with Internet Explorer, but other than that, it works fine.
D2D is okay... but it can be a bitch sometimes cos I'm in the UK. I'll give it a pop though, thanks. Do you happen to know if the first month is included if you take the D2D route?
Edit: Apparently so... Christ, I barely even scrape the minimum specs. |
Yea, the first month is included free - though it'll still ask for credit card info for the second month and onwards.
I've got an AthlonXP 2000+, 768MB of RAM, and a GF4 Ti4600 with 128MB and it runs well - not on the highest graphics settings, but at a decent resolution and it looks well enough. |
My CPU and RAM are letting me down... 1Ghz and 512MB... I got a GeForce FX 5500, 128MB... is that any good? I have no idea.
God dammit, they do demos of every single player game, why not MMOGS? Pah. :D Edit: Fuck it, I'll DL it tomorrow. If it's half as big as it looks, I'm gonna need the whole day. |
The D2D download is 7MB ... but then when you go ahead and launch it, it downloads all of the content and patches. 1.97GB. It took me - on a 10Mbit connection - about 4 hours (their server couldn't seem to send to me faster than 200k/sec).
I got it, I'm jacked in... and quite enjoying it.
I must say, I found the training bit immediately after the tutorial completely uninspiring (where you just have to get hold of all those 'chopper keys'. was sick of it after the first hour or so). But I'm just getting into the missions proper, and it's warming up a bit. Good recommendation, thanks :) Edit: I'm playing as Rhynehart on Syntax - think that's an EU server - if anyone wants to say hello. |
I'm also playing on Syntax - name is silencedPragma. Drop me a line some time, I'll give you some $i ;)
The chopper keys did take a while, but after that, it gets fun - especially after you do the "talk to Niobe" mission and can then choose to work for the Merovingian, the Machines, or Zion. I'm part of a Faction with a bunch of friends, working for the machines. |
Cool, I'll look you up. Is it always this laggy, or is it just my gimped system?
I generally have little to no lag on it - though sometimes (Friday/Saturday evenings) it tends to pick up and have pretty bad lag. Upgrading your system never hurts though :D
