I just got Doom 3 on PC today. I have to say that it is the best game I have played in a long time. The fluidity of the gameplay (like interacting with the computers and such) and that kind of stuff makes it absolutely immersive. The graphics are nothing short of breathtaking and scary as hell. My only complaint so far is that there seems to be a lack of selection when it comes to weapons.
I also played a demo of Half Life 2. I loved it. The physics were amazing, especially with the picker-upper gun that lets you throw stuff like sawblades, exploding barrels, and furniture at aliens.

Finished Jade Empire, both open and closed fist. Kickass game. Bit on the short side. Overall a kickass RPG though. 8.5/10
Started KOTOR 2. So far so good.

It looks better, but not much. I think the key improvements are in the new technologies and the map has borders marked on it. I'm still happy with version 2. That game eats time like... some sort of great time eating thing.

Just been playing FATE. Its an RPG for the casual gamer by WildTangent (kill spyware). Fun, quick and easy and good for a few minutes play but in the end kind of empty and pointless. No story or satisfaction involved in making progress. Am waiting for either a new neverwinter nights or the new morrowind.

We bought a Gamecube about a year ago; before that, we had only the old Nintendo--the first one--and the PC. We've picked up about 15 games during the last year, my favorite of which NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND and Tiger Woods' EA SPORTS golf game from 2003. The whole family has enjoyed ZELDA: WINDWAKER, and look forward to the next installment this fall.

GTA San Andreas on a PC.
OMG, sheer genius and then some. Sure I could be an idiot and mention a couple of bugs rather than appreciating the sheer gigantic scale of the map, the number of missions and vehicles. Kept me occupied for tens of hours and I can dip into it again and again. It looks fantastic as well. It's shown me a side to the US that proves I must never live there Now I know why some of the posters from the US are like they are

GTA San Andreas
9/10 Gets a bit boring killing people after, but a great game nonetheless Half Life 2 11/10 Amazing game. Storyline was great, gameplay was fun, and eye candy. Deserves more than 10. Halo 2 8/10 Could have been a better game, but nonetheless, took my breath away. Graphics were exceptional and gameplay was near perfect. Storyline was lacking though. Battlefield 2 5/10 Don't know what the hype was all about. It was an average game. Lego Star Wars 10/10 Probably one of the most fun games I've played so far. World of Warcraft 9/10 Self-Explanitory.

Madden '06 - This game is either ridiculously hard or ridiculously easy, there seems to be no middle ground for the mediocre like me.
Superstar mode is pretty good. The franchise mode is filled with a ridiculous amount of options. As far as gameplay, it's pretty average with two exceptions: 1- the running game is splotchy. There's no consistency. 2- the quarterback 'vision' thing, which is both a blessing and a curse. To be honest, I wasn't going to buy this game, but since it's the only game in town...well, it doesn't matter what I think, if you want to play football, you have to buy this game. 6/10

Doom 3 - John Carmack leads the way once again... The best lighting we've seen so far, and will be the best until Unreal engine 3.0 rolls into action. The singleplayer gameplay's a bit stiff, but a good play though. Especially if you're an id software fan.
Motorcross Madness 2 - yeah, super old... found it in the bargain bin, had to get it. This is a great game, and the stunt levels never get old. Need for Speed Underground 2 - I was a huge fan of the first 5 games, and I decided to give the latest one a shot. Ultimately, I'm not interested in it. I want to race through beautiful countrysides like the old games, not the same night time city streets over and over again. Pretty game though. Guilty Gear XX - Oh man does this game look good. Best looking 2d fighter out there (still one of 2 i know of that are in high res). Gameplay was slowed down from Guilty Gear X, which is a good thing. This seems to be a good game for tournament play, though I'm not good enough for such things. Tony Hawk 4 - Yeah, screw underground, this is where the real culmination of the series is. This game is really for Tony x vets, and it shows. The last levels are extremely difficult even for a seasoned player like me. Super fun. |

Ninja Gaiden - I picked it up for $15 at a local trade shop. I did it mostly because I was bored and needed something to dick around with until the new spiderman game came out.
This game is ridiculously fucking hard. Even on normal, which I assume must be somewhat easier than 'hard', this game is fucking impossible. And while I'm on the subject, what's the deal with two difficulty selections? Normal and Hard? Where's the choice for "weak-ass" or "just looking to kill some time while my pizza rolls cook?" There is a very fine line between accomplishment and irritation. I can kill ninjas. I can kill bats. I figure out the 'puzzles,' if you even want to call them that. The white ninja guys gave me a lot of trouble at first, but now I do alright. After three days of playing this game in 20 minute spurts (because it makes guthmund sad), I can't even get past the fucking white haired guy with the nunchucks. My previous strategy of whipping ass, which, to be honest, solely consisted of me jumping around like a retard on ritalin while occassionally hitting the X, B, or Y buttons, doesn't seem to work with this guy. I've read the walk-throughs, I've listened to the strategy, but I just can't get it to work. Could've been a fun game. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a ninja. I guess I'm the anti-ninja. And being the anti-ninja is no fun at all. I'll probably still dick around with it from time to time if I ever feel the need to induce stress, but until then the thing sits in my living room in the bin of the 'soon to be traded.' Fucking ninjas 3/10 Edit:Either by dumb luck or...well, it was dumb luck, I've managed to make it to the fourth level. It's still ridiculously hard, but at least, I'm getting some sense of satisfaction from playing the game even it it comes at the expense of blind faith and dumb luck. Sure is a pretty game though....

Thanks for going hi-jacking the thread, especially one that's been dead for a few months now.
Now back on topic: Age of Empires III Not bad, but it's like playing AOE2: Age of King except, there's a hell lot less items to build and all of the civilization is way too similar, the developers could've have at least taken the time to create diverse empires instead of making them different through different skins. 6/10 Civilization IV Excellent, it's like a patch update for Civ 3 but it's becoming a eye candy. Although, it's harder to actually reach the stage in your civilization where you can actually build a rocket to win the game or even get diplomacy. 9/10 |

I've recently gone on a game buying spree...
NBA Live 06 for PSP - Haven't played it too much yet as I just got it today, but so far I'm having a good time with it. The Warriors for PS2 - Just flat out fantastic! This game has taken over my night life lately! Blitz: The League for XBOX - Fun game, nothing great but has lots of replay value. Red Dead Revolver for XBOX - Haven't played it too much either. Gave it about an hour and a half the first night I bought it and haven't thought to play it again. Seems relatively fun though. GUN for XBOX - I really like this game, but evidently it's very, very short. I've yet to get very far in it because of The Warriors, but it's pretty fun as well. |

God of War was fun, but once the ride's over (too quickly, but not by much) there's almost no incentive to come back, except for a too-hard arcadey mission thingawhatsit. It has boobs, though.

Extreme G3 (GC release)
Great game, there are some bits in there (like passing through the sound barrier for instance, and not hearing the sounds of your guns firing until you slow down) that made me go wow, there are also bits in there that have made me break my new controller in frustration. The game is so tempremental in where it wants you to win. Sometimes i'll go flying through, be in first place by the second lap and win with unbelievable ease, and the next minute, on an easier map, i'll end up 10th for no good reason. That and mines, i HATE the mines on this game, i hate them i hate them i hate them. It gets a 7/10*. Extreme G2 was the best game in the series, but maybe i still have to unlock some schnizzle on this one.

The only games I picked up lately were
DOW:Winter Assault 5/10. Solid game, I guess, but they really didn't add ANY content for 30 bucks. The main game was even worse about content, but at least they put the engine in place, this just added a boring race and some maps, and I could download those sorts of things third party for free. Skies of Arcadia Legends: 8/10. I loved playing the original on the 'cast but it's not worth pulling it out of the box anymore and plus it's starting to act up, so I shelled out the 20 bucks to see what the new content was like. My only complaint is they didn't find a very good way of dealing with the content that was centered on the VMU (namely the Pinta quest and Cupil's appearance when you're near a cham) but the wanted battles are sort of cool and the moonfish stuff is all right, albeit more of the same style as chams and discoveries. Still a great RPG, and it stands up pretty damn well.

Use the EMP. When you pass someone, zap 'em like a bitch until you're well clear. That stops those bloody mines, and it's easy on the ammo, too. I like to combine it with the railgun and nothing else. Once you hit the biggest engines, though, it's even more insane. Whee!

Intensive list here, and my shelf just keeps getting more and more crowded.
Spent about 60 or so hours on Ninja Gaiden Black. Then I went back to unlock all three original Ninja Gaiden discs, and both costumes. Still have to do all of the mission modes in black, and looking forward to it. Just finished DOOM3 and working on Half Life 2. Backtracking to Gladius when I have a moment, and 25 to Life, Gun, Spider Man Ultimate, and Jade Empire are on the list. Devil May Cry 1 Devil May Cry 3 DOOM3 Resurrection of Evil PSP: Lumines Great Wipeout Pure good X-men Legends II great Twisted Metal Head-On good Dynasty Warriors great Burnout Legends great LoTR Tactics suck

The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth 2
I picked this up last week and it is all I have been playing since. Similar enough to C&C: Generals to jump right in and yet different enough to stand on its own. I'm hoping to get my friends playing this so it can be the star of our next LAN. This is the RTS that I have been aching to play the last few months. I see this as being my RTS of choice until Supreme Commander arrives. Last night I watched The Return of the King after playing and I must say that the game captures the movies brilliantly. Definitely worth looking into for anyone who likes the genre. |
