Do You Like Playing as a Female or Male?

This stuck to me all day at school today for some odd reason.

I wanted to know if you guys like having your characters in games as either a Male or Female?
My friend Cody is an Anime fiend, he practically runs the local Anime Clubs in the High Schools around Anchorage.
He also likes playing chicks in games that have a choice of sex.
I thinks its kinda weird, I don't think anything wrong of it, but I do see a oddity in doing such a thing, especially since he's a dude, and a good friend of mine.

He currently plays Guild Wars alot!!!
and he plays as a ranger necro chick.
he finds it fun to always get dudes to give good gear for free in the game, especially when he tells everyone that he's a dude.
Most guys in that game seem to flirt and have fun even when he informs them on this.
I think thats hilarious.

So I wanna know what you guys and gals (do they exist on the internet? :P) like to play as in games that give you the choice of which sex to be.

i like to play as girls when it doesnt affect gameplay.

for example EA Sports TopSpin.
if you play as the girl, you're service power is greatly decreased. plus the forehand and backhand shots dont have as much power to it.
but if you play as the male, you've got tons of power (serving, forehand, backhand)

if the game is like that then i DO NOT like playing as the female.

but for games like TigerWoods PGA Tour 2005.
the men and women have similar power so it doesn't matter who you pick.
then i would rather play as the female.

I'm all for male characters but in games like Mercenary, playing either male or female has different outcomes. Same goes for Knights of the Old Republic. In that case, I like to play both sex so that I can see what's different about either way.

I actually enjoy playing female characters in a lot of "rear-view" RPG's (Vampire the Masquerade, Morrowind, etc.). The reason is simple: if I'm going to stare at an arse all day, I prefer a female arse, damnit!

Then again, in first-person shooters, I tend to play a male character, since there's not much to see.

Yes, I do enjoy playing games...

In most RPGs, I'll play as a male. Although, the female elementalist in Guild Wars is pretty hot.

Depends on the mood I'm in, usually, I'll choose based on stats, other times, I'll just pick a good looking model.

I started playing as a girl when Street Fighter was around.. Guys hate it when you use chun-li to beat them up. Of course you had no choice in the first few tomb raiders, which was cool. I guess I'm also one that will play as a girl if there's not too much of a handicap when doing it..

In single player games where you can choose the sex I always choose male. In single player games where the main character is female, it doesn't bother me at all. In MMORPGs, if a guy chooses a girl character it really really bothers me for one reason: I believe that your character is an alias of yourself. It's not just a random character...you're playing that character. Playing as a girl DOES lead most guys to believe (or want to believe) that you're a girl. Nearly every guy that plays a girl in an MMO realizes this. I just can't understand how a guy would want thousands of other players believing they are a girl. It's a little different if you tell everyone you're a guy, but a large majority of players don't.

If these guys who play as girls don't see their character as an alias then I suppose I can understand having a female character...but it's still weird. In the end, other people are believing that you're a girl and these guys are OK with that. Whatever floats your boat!

I do that as well. It's not really what I look like always, but it's an image that would represent myself.

When I first started my long descent into the deep dark world of MMORPGS, I played a female character for a few weeks while I learned the beginning world of EverQuest. Mainly because she was smokin' hot.

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equi..._WE_Female.jpg

Later on I moved onto male characters because it felt wrong. My main character was a lizard humanoid (iksar) so it wasn't really an issue, as lizards don't have any secondary sex characteristics.

Then with World of Warcraft I played a male night elf as a main, but .. again .. female night elves were smokin' so I picked one for secondary.

It was actually quite disturbing, as the gamers in that mmorpg are so immature (listen to the college-boy yap). I mean, seriously, I was verbally harassed randomly by people I never had talked to asking me where I lived, how old I was, if I could send a picture. It was fucked up, I felt like I was being stalked, as some of these guys would never fucking leave me alone. I'd never talked to them, and they would consistently hit on me whenever I went online. I see how life could be potentially troublesome as a shy girl.

I've never hit on a girl though, as I'm an old school type of nerd. Though I am afraid I've done my share of looking.

Yup, yup, yup. I play a chick. Always have since Baldur's Gate the first, where I created "Dragconia," who has since become the main character in all the RPGs I play. Maybe it's a chance to explore my feminine side (because we all know how much true character exploration we all do in RPGs...).

Sigh.

I've already said too much.

Male playing a Mithra (FFXI) = Manthra.

I'll agree, it's creepy. I always play a male if given the choice. However it's really odd when 2 people who play female characters constantly refer to each other as "He" and "Him" in guild chat.

Actually, in my experience on WoW, I have a really hard time convincing guy players that I'm actually female. Every time it comes up in conversation they're all, "yeeeeah, suuuuure" or "uh-huh, riiiight," like girls don't play games.

That said, I always play a female, unless of course the character is male--as is the case in nearly every WWII game I've ever played or FPSs, because then there's no choice (some cases rightfully so, as I'm pretty sure there weren't women handling firearms in WWII).

Wow, didn't think this would be a good topic to post

I myself like playing as a dude, not only because of the fact that I myself am a male
I like to emulate wut I "wish" I could look like, its fun to be someone else on a game, but I will always prefer to be my own sex.

I use to play EQ, I made 1 female character and I only played her till lvl 10, and I was pissed at how easy it is to get around as a chick, and i mean PISSED!!!!, I was at the brink of outrage.
I got gear that would have cost any of my male characters a small fortune of platinum for absolutely free.
I got Power Leveled literally all the time, and I never had to run anywhere only because I had some sort of lughead druid or wizard teleport me around and give me free speed buffs, this was something that I disliked alot.
