Meet the new X-Box 360.
Here's a size comparison: Look at the removeable 40GB HDD: It was announced that there will be a $299 version WITHOUT a hard drive and it will NOT be backwards compatible. There will ALSO be a $399 version WITH a hard drive and it WILL be backwards compatible plus it'll come with web TV. If you don't believe me, here are my sources: SOURCE 1 SOURCE 2 SOURCE 3 SOURCE 4 And here's a quote (can't find the source): Quote:

wow an extra $100 for backward compatiability? That sucks. Man it looks slick though. I cant help but want one even though I do not like the Xbox out now. PS3, this and the new nintendo system are going to rock hard.

$300 is the lower-end of the market segment? Fuck you. The rich get richer and the poor just sit there and take it.

It looks like half of the Internet is saying this is a prototype and half is saying this is the real deal. Who knows? Either way, that prototype/real console looks nice. It's still a bit baffling how the XBox was released a year after the PS2 yet the XBox 2 is being released a year before the PS3.

I'm calling BS, its too fucking ugly to be a final design, IMO. Hopefully they will show a decent looking design whenever they show it on MTV or E3 or whereever the fuck they are showing it off at.

Fuck them right in the ear. $300 to buy a new X-box? And that's for the "low-end" market? Plus the purchase of a second controller (no company has thrown one of those in on an initial release in a while,no?), a memory card (no hard drive) and a game (cause all your old x-box games might as well be coasters at this point)? Another $100 to eliminate the memory card and add backwards compatablity? So, it's going to cost almost $500 just to get started with Microsoft? Unbe-fucking-lieveable. If this is the case, I hope Sony stomps the ever loving dog shit out these assholes.

And without the technological edge this time around, MS appears to be left with Hal- er, I mean, it's various successful franchises.

looking slick, i as well have to call bluff. IGN is reliable enough but I do not see MS making their system before sony reveals the 3.
Also all the extra money for this and that which imho should be pretty standard is weak as hell too on their part if it is in fact truth.

Nice looking. $399 for backwards compatibility seems a bit steep. It's beautiful looking, but I wouldn't be shelling out that kind of bank just to be able to play the old games. The hard drive option is nice though.

Ok. The comment that X360 is catered to the lower-end of the segment is rediculous.
But how much was the PS2 when it first debuted? Also $299, if memory serves. And for another controller it was, what, $30? And a memory card was the same, $30? Plus games - $40-50? So around $400-$500 depending on how many games you pick up. Looks about the same to me... /flamewar begins

XBoxes are kinda... pointless, IMO.
If you have a good PC then there's really no need to buy an XBox. Instead, you can spend that money on upgrading your video card. The games that come out for XBox are also released on PC and usually perform much better.

Stompy - have you played Halo PC? There's an exception.
Not only that, the hot console titles usually come out significantly later on the PC. Halo came out 2 years after the XBox release, and Fable PC is slated for a November release.

And to add, Consoles are a much more social thing than PC games.
Have some buddies come over and play videogames and drink some beer.

I don't have time to tweak my machine each and every time...
WoW patching has been a pain in the ass and a reminder as to why have a console and why I enjoy playing on my console. Pop in and play, not start, see new patch d/l patch, figure out changes, and new bugs....

Yeah, I've played Halo on PC. Much better than the console. I hate using a controller for FPS games.
And an MMORPG will always have patches, even on a console. FFXI for PS2 was the same way. If there was an update, you downloaded patches, etc.

$30 (list price for a replacement x-box controller) for a second controller because they ain't going to throw one in for free. $50 for a new game to experience the greatness that is X-Box:360 otherwise what's the point, no? $480 forgive me for rounding up All that aside, nearly $500 to have a complete next generation console sitting in your living room is outrageous. Microsoft has a long and honorable history of screwing the customer, so I guess this is just par for course. $25 for official x-box memory card? (How many people actually use it, I wonder?) $20 for the Advanced AV pack so you could take advantage of your big fancy television and sound system, and $30 for the DVD playback kit, which you had to have to play DVDs, are all excellent ways for the business to make money by making the customer buy superfluous accessories in order to take full advantage of the console. Until the Grand Collective of gamers stops grabbing ankle and takes a stand, Microsoft and their ilk are just going to continue porting out specific features to force you to buy a litany of unnecessary accessories while raising the price of the core package (console and controller). I would be very interested in seeing what the prices are going to be on the PS3 and the Nintendo "Revolution" to see if this kind of shit is limited to the hallowed halls of Gates' or has spread worldwide. By the way, I think Stompy makes an excellent point about taking the money and spending it on your computer. If in fact all three companies decide to follow the Microsoft pricing plan for their consoles....Well, I'll just say that kind of money is better spent on my computer.

A new Xbox being released hardly renders your current Xbox games obsolete. You going to throw out your current Xbox just because a new one is on the shelves? Not me, mine'll keep playing the games I have now until it decides to die on me.
Somehow I think that'll be long after the new Xbox hits shelves. |

I'm reading these rants and all I can think is that almost all this information started with IGN. . . and I'm sorry but I tend to agree with PennyArcade, IGN is worthless 99.8% of the time, I'm just going to bite my tounge and wait for E3. Microsoft is struggling to keep up with Sony in the console market already, I can't imagine them shooting themselves in the foot by alienating most of the potential customer base right out the door.
The one telling point is that Xbox 1 games wouldn't be backwards compatible. Who'd be the fucking genius to pull that one off? That's right, give gamers that last reason they needed to wait for and buy a PS3 instead.

Oh, and FngKestrel and I do use a memory card to transfer game saves between our boxes, as we tend to alternate playing at each other's homes.

As far as the backwards compatibility thing, it'd be worth it for someone like me who doesn't have an XB1. Of course, I'd wait a few months to see if I could get it for a but less... And if the backcomp thing requires an HD, it might be because of some emulation software. You can bet that a pirated/open source version will appear soon enough, and that could be cheaper. |

Please remember that we don't want any ipods or flatscreens, and when the time comes, we won't want any Xbox 360s either
We're working on the MTV special now. There's lots of NDA (non disclosure agreements flying about.) Everyone that's seen or played it says it rocks.

Well hold on. I agree that $300 is not the low end of the consumer market, unless you count PC's. $300 vs $1,000 might just make sense. That $300 wouldn't cover some of the video cards out today. And I don't mind paying extra for backwards compatibility. Seems to me what they're saying is "Hey! All you guys that already have first gen xboxes - you can get the upgrade for $100 cheaper - you don't NEED backwards compatibility because you already have the xbox." |

perhaps saying that the price point is aiming towards the lower end of the market is porentous of the PS3 and NRev being even MORE expensive.
PS2 took FOREVER to come down in price, even after Gamecube and Xbox knocked $50 off their launch prices. I wouldn't be surprised to see PS3 debut at $399

i for one like the looks of the new xbox 360, much more stylin than the old boring looking xbox, and i will also definetely appreciate the smaller size, the old one was an awfully big ass thing to lug over to a friends house. + all wireless controllers (big grin, check). Granted $500 for everything i need just to play one two player game without memory cards is just fucking ridiculous. still i want one, and i'll probably wait till they drop the price from what $300 to probably $250 for the good one, cause i'm broke.
