EVE Online
Anyone here played EO? I remember being very interested in the idea during its development, so I decided to check back on it after a year or two of negligance and from the looks of the website everythings up and running... has anyone here ever played?

I currently play this game. I was searching for graphical MUDs sometime late 2003, and found EVE. I didn't have powerful graphics card at the time, so I had to wait two agonizing months. With the screenshots, the backstory, and the library all at my fingertips, I had to excercise great willpower to not to drool over myself.
The first time I went into warp, my jaw hit the floor and I said to myself that this is the only game I'm going to play and stay interested in (as I don't play games very often, they have to interest me right from the get go to have my support)... and I have. It has been just over a year since I've joined. I've made a lot of friends, and have learned a lot about all facets of the game. I'm primarily a miner, but my wish is to get into player-versus-player action soon. The graphics, the story, and the multitude of options in-game are in short, amazing. Do you want to be a trader? A player-Killer? A miner? A researcher? A manufacturer? These and many more options are available. This game currently holds the record for non-shardless MMORPGs - about 12 800 people online at once. No other RPG can currently touch this record. World of Warcraft and all the others require you to join a certai server and stay on that server. What is worse is that each server's gameplay is separate. EVE Online has no such restriction. Communicate, buddy up, and fight with whomever you wish. There is a no-obligation 14-day trial available to anyone who is interested, just look for it on the front page of the website linked above. That means no credit card numbers, and no stranglehold by the game's maintainers. Play for two weeks (each account has three separate character slots available for you to use), and if you don't like it, cancel your account. It's that easy, and CCP (the game's creator) has been very good to those who just want to see the game first-hand. Lak, that above wasn't for you obviously, but for all the MMORPG players who aren't on EVE already. I seriously cannot say enough about this game. It has taken my breath away. What about you, Lak? If anyone is interested in contacting me in-game, PM me on TFP or leave your in-game name here in this thread.

I played in the beta. It was an incredibly complex and detailed world even back then. Excellent graphics and music too, but I got bored with mining about the time of the final release and didn't really feel like starting from scratch. I didn't know about the free trial, maybe I'll check it out again.

I''m playing it and it's GREAT!
I'm in a very FUN corp and I think that's all that counts.. to have a nice bunch of people to play with and operate as a fleet. own space station and TeamSpeaks and all. Right now a couple of noob organizations we're stupid enough to declare a war on us (cause we revealed their spy inside our corp) so it'll be filled with action in High Sec for some time before we wipe them out! What are your character names? - Convo me, I'm "Orityhia". And join our corp. It's rich and you can do pretty much whatever u like, missions etc. every now and then some mining ops in 0.0 and then we need miners or protection to our fleet. And right now, we could use some Fighters to wipe those other thief-corps out! looking for some PvP action in High Sec? Blasting noobs out stupid enough to lock you? always fun.. Convo or EVEMAIL me! (even if you don't wanna join, nice to know TFP folks from there and I'm always willing to help if something comes up) - Ori |

Looks very nice, good story etc etc but I just found it boring The mission were not very good (6 jumps to another system then 6 jumps back) and I hated mining. Not enough combat init for me. Myabe its better now This was a while ago, lol. |

Darn you all to heck, now I've started playing this game too! Just like Carn, I'm going to have to pay for this game once my trial period finishes. Argh, and I've been so good up till now, avoiding things like City of Heroes and World of Warcraft, only to succumb to my one weakness, sci-fi space action.

Tough missions you can't get through? I or someone else will fly to help you out if you want. my character: Orithyia See you in space. |

I just downloaded this and played a bit of it. I was spurred on by a buddy of mine who posted on another board about something that happened on this game last spring.
Click this link: http://www.mmodig.com/?p=155 and then read the four pages that are scanned in at the top. You KNOW there was some people totally FREAKING out about that.

Okay, this post motivated me to download and try the 14 day free trial. It was okay until I got to the part where you have to mine. The tutorial thing says that after I fill up my cargo hold with ore, go to the next gate. The problem was that my cargo holds 120 units, and every asteroid I mined was worth 0.1 unit. If you think I'm going to just sit there and mine 1,200 asteroids you got another thing coming. What an awful thing to put in the tutorial...good bye Eve.

I just grabbed the 14 day trial (I think I'm on day 5 or 6 now), and I'm finding it very relaxing compared to other MMOs. Maybe I'm just getting old or something, but FPS games and "normal" MMOs have stressed me out, it's nice to just be able to relax as your ship cruises through space

Well, at first I thought it was really, really slow paced, but then I realized this just might be the perfect thing for me. I can begin traveling somewhere, minimize, actually be productive, and occasionally check back in to see if I'm there yet...
It is pretty neat - I somehow got quite a bit of money, and now I'm just waiting to get my skills up before I start spending it...

I started playing Eve at the tail end of 2004.
Got into a mining corp, did some missions and ended up quitting out of boredom after about 3 months. Came back a few months later and did mnothing but missions, lasted about a month before I quit again. Came back again and this time decided to try something different. Joined a corp in 0.0, became part of an alliance and joined the fight for Detorid ( a region of space in 0.0). That was about 6 or 7 months ago. I'll be thefirst to admit this game can be boring as all hell, but joining the right corp is a world of difference. Nothing like hearing the call that one of our pos's (player owned stations) is under attack by an enemy alliance and organizing a fleet of ships to go defend it. The guys who make this game (CCP) also just upgraded their entire server farm to reduce lag. Its things like that and the regular free expansion packs, that are gonna keep me from quitting for some time. Oh and check this out Link All these ships can be flown in the game. The 4 biggest have yet to be manufactured yet however. Those tiny specks are the frigates (the starting craft of eve)

Holy Jesus!
Damn, those are some bigass ships! I quit playing when all I had was that crappy Caldari ship that looks like the Firefly. Hmmm... Maybe I'll buy this game for summer vacation....

I just registered a 14 day trial account and downloaded the client. This was the fastest download I have ever seen, by the way. It downloaded at about 496kb/s the whole time. Usually my downloads start about that fast, then drop down to an average of 150kb/s or slower. I was pretty impressed about that.
Apparently though, I chose a bad time to try the game out. I can't even connect to the game, I checked to the forums and a lot of people are having the same problem. Today was patch day and there seems to be a lot of post-patch issues happening. I just want to try this game out. |

I've been playing Eve for about 10 months now. Have a character all the way out in Solitude region right now. If any of you that just started need assistance, let me know. You are right that this game goes on forever... In ten months, I have only gotten 3.4% of the total skillpoints available in the game. I am still learning a lot of the different aspects of the game. And there is a ton left to learn! Sometime this year they will be upgrading the graphical engine, which will make it an even more beautiful game.
In game, my character name is Das Haagen. |

I joined ASCN proper on Sunday so I missed the first wave. Now I'm part of the G-M gate camp which is the least used gate. The only good thing is there were tempest snipers out today when I logged on at lunch. I only had a Vexor there (my domi is parked) and they called me primary. I lost a crappy t1 vexor, they lost a tempest with t2s. Then I came back in a suicide tackler and they warped in with 4 tempests and a cov-ops. We got another tempest and popped the cov-ops as well. Not sure what we lost in that one. The rest of the time you are looking at warpbubbles. I'm sure its great fun for the dread pirates out POS popping, but for the gate camp.....its dull. I have a feeling if G-Iron makes another attempt to save EC it will be through the GM camp, which means I'll get to die again and then they will be swarmmed by BoB et al.

ISS is taking over the station, and as anyone with a brain expected BoB is now going to try to 'win eve'. ASCN is preparing as if they are the next target. I think it was a mistake to help BoB there, but ASCN had a very big grudge against G/Iron as G/Iron got a NAP from ASCN and then did a sneak attack while ASCN was still blue to them in the recent past.

I've just d/l'd the client and I'm ready to start but I had a couple of questions I won't be getting answers to in a tutorial...
- What's it like to solo in this game? Is joining a corp the only way to get through life (or the universe and everything) - Can any race join any corp? [edit got this one, requires a special skill] - how often do newbs get ganked and then have their pod ganked as well? assuming i don't do stupid stuff like take my newb ship to low security areas - how many game missions require spawn camping for a unique mob? (are they called mobs in space?) I think I might have played in the beta for this game and recall that being an issue... and finally, how much new content has been added since release? are the devs active? Thanks to anyone who can pitch in on these...

well, lets see
You can solo just fine, but the most fun will be had in an active corp. It gives a new dimension to the game. As long as you stay in 0.5 and above you shouldn't have to worry about getting podded unless you're really unlucky. But most of the people who would do that can't get into the 0.5-1.0 systems anymore because of their security rating. Ganking is the same way. Don't steal someone's can or shoot first and you should be ok. I've run into very few missions that require camping for a mob. There are quite a bit of spawned encounters, but they're already there when you arrive. And it depends on what type of mission it is too. The Devs are still active, they're supposed to be coming out with an expansion sometime in the next few months. But they've also released quite a few since the game went gold. Glad to see someone else getting into the game. What's your name ingame? |
