Good Games that are FREE!!!
I'm guessing that this is an already posted thread (what isn't) but I'm gonna ask it anyways
I want to know if any of you know any really good games online that are free MMORPGs, RPG, Strategy, Card, Etc. Right now I mostly play Gunbound, RO (Ragnarok Online if you didn't know) and Maple Story, all of these games are free (or at least beta Free) RO is free because of free servers that host this game I'm mainly looking for games that are capable for 56k Internet since that is what I have to work with. Any information on this would be great. |
Have you checked out Kings of Chaos? I used to really like playing it!
www.kingsofchaos.com It's text based, but pretty fun! |
I know where to get lots of games, but I'll keep it to myself since it's not very PC around here.
|
I'm having a total brain fart, but not too long ago, I came across a site that had listings for old games that have been released to the public and are now free. This site had games like Dune 2, Relentless, some of the King's Quest series, as well as other classic Sierra games.
They used a term for these games, and I can't remember it for the life of me. Something like "openware"... it was "<something>ware", I know that much. Anyone know what I'm talking about? edit: Abandonware!! that's what it is First hit on google for "abandonware": http://www.abandonwarering.com/ Look for more on google. |
Great, thanks for all the information
I tried KoC for a while and didn't like it much www.darkwars.org is a text based game I play that I like due to the simplicity of it. not to mention all my friends play it :p |
Anarchy Online. Its worth a look. Its well worth its price.
|
I am a fan of Dominion....
www.kamikazegames.com It's a strategy game that updates every hour, on the hour... Welcome to addiction |
There's a great list over at Liberated Games :)
Furthermore, some of my favorite free (as in speech) games are bzflag (Irix, Linux, *BSD, Windows, Mac OS X, and more), Chromium B.S.U. (Windows version available but "unsupported"), Trackballs (haven't tried the Windows version, but it's there), Crack Attack! (It's under developmental transition right now, so I can't find the Windows version on the site...I have it sitting around though, so if you're interested then PM me with your e-mail address), and, lastly, Frozen Bubble |
Home of the Underdogs is a pretty good site for abandonware.
|
I found http://www.abandonwarering.com/ to be very interesting
Abandonware is completely new to me, and I found a ton of fun games to waste time with. Thanks for the link |
The Ur-Quan Masters is a totally free port of the 3DO version of Star Control II - and its really good. Toys For Bob, the original creators of SC2 just up and gave them the source code and artwork. Although, it's not particularly 56k friendly. It can range from about 12mb to 160mb depending on what components you want to add in. If you wanna leave your net on for a while, check it out at http://sc2.scourceforge.net/.
Also for abandonware, Abandonia is good (not as good as the underdogs though...) www.abandonia.com. |
The Ur-Quan Masters is a great game. I was so happy when I found out that I could play SC2 in windows.
|
check out www.worldconquests.com
|
Checked out both Ur-Quan and World Conquest and found them both to be interesting, Ur-Quans quite a bit of fun, and world conquest seems to be a well made game.
|
Ur-Quan Masters single player is fun, but if you find someone to play super-melee with, that's ridiculously fun. :D My roommates and I spent many hours playing each other. Like Space War on steroids.
|
Counter Strike, Starcraft, Diablo II, and Halo (PC) are all free to play online. When you purchase the counter strike/ halflife collection it comes with other free games that you can play online.
As far as MMORPG games, it is very difficult to find any like Everquest that are free to play because of the cost the companies have to pay to maintain the servers and such. Diablo II is not a true MMORPG but it is close enough when there is no fee to play online. |
I love that other people appreciate The Ur-Quan Masters.
|
I'm not talking about those games dude, I'm talking about Free all around games, no buy cost at all
Such as RO on Private Servers for some MMORPG play or other games such as Gunbound and Maple Story www.globalmaple.com (Maple Story) www.gunbound.net (Gunbound) |
You gather more flys..........
|
if you want a free MMORPG just go for anarchy online.
|
i play tibia (www.tibia.com) which is a free mmorpg, and although the graphics are not very good, it is really addicting. i have been playing off and on for about 3 years now.
|
I am now interested in this ur-quan game. I'm downloading it now. You know, http://www.newgrounds.com has tons of free flash games. Most of them suck, but some are really fun.
|
www.addictinggames.com has a growing list of mostly fun games. They're pretty much all short-lasted, but it's quite the time killer.
|
I though Anarchy Online was p2p?
Or is it like what Guild Wars is (supposedly) going to be? buy game and no monthly fee? thanks for the Addictive Games link, lots of fun! |
Last I checked MUDs are free. And fun.

Knight Online is a free MMORPG. Check it out at http://www.knightonlineworld.com/.
The site is currently down though. You can also find out more about it here. Don't download the client off the second link however, it's the Malaysian version. Plus, you'll have to reigster off of the first site anyways. |
Wow! Anarchy Online for Free for a year
thats amazing, now I definitely have to check this out is it a free year from the date u register? if not, when does it end? Now these are the kinda games I'm looking for! definitely gonna try the Knights Online game that games looks great! |

I believe Tribes 2 was released not too long ago. MUDs are almost always free, and I've found plenty of good games at Home of the Underdogs. |
I don't like MUDs for the reason that there are no pictures or graphics, and then it just gets boring for me, I heard Tribes 2 was a great game, maybe I'll try and get a demo or something, its not very 56k friendly though, not many fps multiplayer games are.
|
Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 were both released as freeware as part of the hype leading up to the release of Tribes Vengeance. You can grab either or both at FilePlanet.
I really don't know how many public servers still exist for the two games, but Tribes 1 was extremely 56K friendly (I was playing on a 24.4K connect back in the day and did quite well.) In the field of web based MUD-style games, Kingdom of Loathing kept me entertained for a few weeks. www.kingdomofloathing.com |

yea, I went to the site and found that out, still good though
although 900mb is a fairly big DL for me since I only have 56k anyone know if AO is 56k friendly? Edit: Found Tribes on Fileplanet and started to DL them and found them to actually be 56k friendly, very friendly in fact, I had to use GameSpy to find servers though, only found a few that were online at a time. |
(Sorry for Double Post)
Has anyone found any more new games? I found this one game that right now is in beta phase where your on a hoverboard doing tricks and stuff. I DLed it and it was pretty fun the link: http://global.asdfgame.com/ Hope you all keep posting, found a lot of games that were a lotta fun because of this thread. |
|
http://www.steelpanthersonline.com/
Check this game out for sure. It's a turn based World War 2 strategy game. Free and extremely fun. |
Just wondering, has anyone ever tried the WWII MMORPG?
I heard it needs work but if it got that work that it would turn out to be a good game also heard that its still in a Beta Phase (this game has been out for a while) Quote:
lol im still trying to DL Knights Online |

|
Well, Patience I've got (STILL DLing Knights Online)
but it better be good if its gonna make me wait One great thing I found was www.romnation.net it has old school games from practically everything Been playin Meta Slug 1 and 2 (trying to get 3 as I speak) way too much if ur an old school gamer then this site is great for u! |
Has anyone tried R.O.S.E Online?
Its made by Gravity (same guyz who made Ragnarok) and has an all 3D environment, currently in beta for International servers I believe, but I haven't found much info on it If anyone else knows anything, let me know. |
www.nationstates.net
Great online game where you make your own nation, you can make your own flag, the way you deal with issues effects how your country is run. Really fun game. There are wars, region take overs etc. Good way to kill a few hours in a day. My currency is the potato and clones are running rampant. Not to mention criminals are executed in the street and uranium mining is killing my forests. LOL. |
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's not really MMORPGs, RPG, Strategy, Card, Etc... but it is free.
"Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. It's a team game; you will win or fall along with your comrades. The only way to complete the objectives that lead to victory is by cooperation, with each player covering their teammates and using their class special abilities in concert with the others." This was supposed to be an expansion for RtCW, but was released as a free stand alone version instead. http://www.3dgamers.com/games/wolfensteinet/ |
Yea, I actually use to play that when I had T1 speed, its a great game to play
A very well made FPS I never got a chance to try out if its 56k friendly or not, I bet there are some servers that have 56k friendly capabilities though Nationstates was an interesting looking game :) |
Ur-Quan masters!!! I devoted two whole years of my child-hood to that game! And now when I try the link to download it I get some goddamn search assistant thing! And as I clicked the link I was getting all teary eyed thinking about the Spathi and the Arilou leelayleewhatever and those crazy pterodactyl things... what were they.... the flew blue bananas with kickass machineguns.... and the melnorme... and the kor-ah... oh god i think i'm gonna cry!
|
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/s...r.exe?download
That should take you to the DL, if you're using windows. Here is the containing page if that doesn't work or you're on a Mac or some Linux distro. |
Has anyone tried Knights Online?
I wanna know how it is. |
If you only have 30 minutes or so to play a day, google Kingdom of Loathing. its a turn based game that is silly fun.
|
FREE MMO's
www.KnightOnlineWorld.com (Its Free2Play) www.RoseOn.com (Open Beta, cartoony look... yes, Fun... hell yeah.) |
Another abandonware site with similar games to the first one posted - classic games that didn't sell well enough to keep the company afloat, but were still brilliant - Home of The Underdogs. You can get some fantastic games here, I'm now replaying Dungeon Keeper after about seven years of waiting.
The Independant Games Festival has links to a bunch of games without publishers - these are usually free. One game in particular from this year's lineup that has got me addicted - N. You play a small ninja in a game that's similar to Lode Runner, only instead of making holes in the floor you can jump around and off walls. And you need to, because the world is populated by a lot of killer robots. 300 levels, lots of deaths (my death count is closing in on 35,000), lots of fun. Well worth trying out (And it's completely free). |
http://forum.ragezone.com/
sign up for an account and your on your way to the best free mmorpg gaming around. i heard MU is a good game |
I used to play WWII online religiously. awesome game and waaaaay out of beta now. It was pretty bad when it first came out, but now its just plain awesome. a half-scale map of europe in one giant battle, from germany to france and up into england, there are multiple types of infantry, tanks, planes and ships. it great cause you load up in the back of a truck and get driven out to battle, sometimes an enemy plane will spot your convoy and tyou see your buddy's drop dead as the plane straffes you. prettyy intense. they are constantly updating the game, they just put in parachuters too!
definatly check this game out. its unlike and FPS you've ever played. its a virtual battlefield. |
I play N!!!
I had to quit since I could never get past chapter 5 I actually had some friend play ROSE Online they didnt like it too much due to the massive amounts of lag that they seem to always get. Maybe it has gotten better (considering that gravity is the guys making the game, I highly doubt that) A Really Addictive Game that I found was a game called Doukutsu It looks lame at first but its a great game to play, extremely addictive!!! |
THANG Online
It's an MMO in development, but the developers don't speak particularly good English, so I can't tell if it's in open beta or actually free. They have a system where you can buy ingame equipment with real money, so it might actually be free... I'm not sure. It's pretty fun, if a little basic at the moment. Flash Flash Revolution A Flash version of Dance Dance Revolution. Extremely addictive, and free. |
Wow, this is such a good thread! The links here could keep me busy and happy for quite a while!
|
Anyone try out Stepmania?
If your a DDR fan then you'll love this game. It can be done on either a keyboard or if you have a computer compatible DDR pad then you can adjust it to that. www.stepmania.com/stepmania check it out :) |
how about www.acid-games.com
they have alot of catogories including some u want |
if ur buying a game u could buy diablo 2 and the expansion, i play that alot, but make sure u have a good mouse or u might breakit with all the clicking
|
Diablo 2 kinda sucks now
all the little a**holes keep talkin $h1t for no good reason not to mention all the hackers that still exist in there. It was a fun game. actually built a soceress, necro, and assassin to lvl 99 But now I don't like that game at all anymore I heard Guild Wars will be like a D2 style game, I might try that out. |
So, who all has played Guild Wars?
I liked it a lot gots me a lvl 6 necro :P |
Not sure if this was posted in this thread yet, but I thought I would post it in case:
