I'm loving the demo of this game. It's running very well on my rig with high detail.

The inf weapons feel nice and tight, the kits are well balanced. I played both as the MEC and USMC and did well with the assault kit on both sides. Sprint ability for inf is really neat. Squads are going to change the way people play this type of game. They are easy to use, a real boon to gameplay and more fun than a barrel of greased up monkeys! Respawning at your squad leader & medics allow for much less running from spawnpoint to enemy spawnpoint.

Commander mode is way cool, raining down arty on the bad guys is awesome, as is dropping resupply.

I don't fly, so I don't fly. I really suck at it, so I can't say anything about that. I did use the tanks and LAVs a lot and again, well balanced and hell of a lot of fun. The firing port guns in the APCs seem pretty useless, but it beats firing your own ammo!

To change resolution edit your short cut as follows ...Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

(edit 1680 and 1050 for your desired resolution). read that someplace.

The map Gulf of Oman is cool. It was a nice size for the 32 player games, if maybe a little crowded for 64. Mounted AA and MGs in bases provide for much more fun out of defense. Also walls with firing steps are terrific.

The graphics...I've got a Sapphire X800 256MB AGP card and I'm running it widescreen mode. It looks fantastic. Some things, like watching someone else sprint, look very real. The body modeling is great, except, bad ragdoll deaths...which can lead to some funny deaths, like when you have no idea 2 guys are right outside the bunker you are fighting from until an explosion of some sort blasts their bodies against the wall next to you.

I'm buying this game. Big props.

Just got the demo last night and I must say I'm impressed. Graphics are nice of course, but the new team-based gameplay is terrific. I can't wait for the full version.

I also noticed that the AI actually works now. I was sniping one of the bots when he ducked into a doorway for cover, then popped out after I turned my attention elsewhere.

As for graphics I've got a 9800 Pro and it runs very nice. As portwineboy said, the modeling and physics look great as well. The shell-shock feature reminiscent of MOH is nice too.

Loving it Been playing it for a few days.

Get a good squad and its great, get a poor one and its a bit bad sometimes.
Bullet spread/drop is a bit weird (I'm use to JO) but can get use to it.
The Heavy machine guns dont seem to very good but I never am good with them in any game

Medic kicks arse (almost as good as JO medic ).

Cant wait for the full game.

I've been playing the demo quite a bit, and I had to go ahead and pre-order the game.
I had to dial back some of the detail to get a good frame rate with my 9800 pro, but it still looks awesome.
Some of the machine guns in say, the anti-tank class seem to fire nerf bullets, but that's about my only complaint. The animations are great, gameplay is fun, and the sounds are amazing.

I ended up buying the Zboard keyboard...which, if you look on the zboard.com website, has a rebate for the limited edition Battlefield2 keyset insert ($20, making it free) when you buy the regular keyboard and the insert at the same store. Having the BF2 keys labelled makes learning the new controls a lot easier.

You're not liking the heavy machine gun? I love it, supports one of my favorite classes... you just gotta make sure you go prone if you want any kinda accuracy.

I have been enjoying the demo too, have to say I like the USMC engineer class. Takes a bit to get use to the shotgun but it is a great weapon. Only drawback is you need to be fairly close to use it with any power.

got the demo a while a go, and i cant say im impressed. it feels just like bf1942, with all of it's ridiculous problems, but tries harder.

i would prefer bf1942 because it doesnt really try to be tactical.

bf2 just fails at being slow and tactical. there is still way too much jump-shooting, circle strafing, parachute-kamakaziing and tank-charge-bailing-out-ing.

a few improvements being better kits and better weapons but thats about it.

as with bf1942, i find single player way more enthralling. as bots actually know how to use spawn zones, cover, and don't play like silly zerg-rush/flashbanging CSers.

Call of Duty (with expansion) is still the best game like this out there, to date. Fast, furious, but extremely slow and tactical. Great vehicle incorporation and balance.

Is Battlefield 2 entirely online, or is there a campaign mode to you know?

Same with Call of Duty. I'm looking for good FPS but the computer that's going to be fast enough to play it will be internet-less until September.

people keep talking about the "wow" factor and Total Immersion of battlefield2.

frankly, the second someone lept out of an apache, and ran at me i lost all faith in this game.

What was good about bf1942, is that it WAS cheesy. There was no denying it. "I'll fly my zero right over that enemy carrier, and single handedly take down the entire enemy fleet"

But it just doesn't work for bf2, a game which tries to be a little more realistic.

Small arms hurting tanks? A few bumps and dunes damaging tanks?

I really would have liked this game to have 1-shot kills. I pumped several shots from my m16 into an enemy today before he finally died.

Stupid.

If you're going to give us a flashbanging, intense, explosions, circle-strafing, fast combat game, with powerups, give us Quake, or unreal. And if you're going to give us a squad-based, tactical shooter, give us COD, AA or even Rogue Spear.

There's too much in between. The devs should have sat down and made up their mind on which game they were making.

Anyway, anyone ever played Vietcong? That game was fantastic. I played the demo (2 map demo) online for almost a year before i found the game at a store. Single Player was crap, but multiplayer was awesome. I stuck to playing mostly the 2 demo maps (bridge something, and river something or other) and that was fun. It had the perfect balance of slow-tactical combat (i.e. iron sight aiming, no crosshair, etc) and insane hectic action, tons of crossfires, enemies in bushes, snipers, bayonets, cover fire. It didn't do so well, and i rarely hear talk of it, a real shame. That game (mp anyway) had it going on.

I completely disagree with nearly every negative comment about the game so far. The game is strategic, moreso than any other in the series. The squads allow you to spawn at your captain...that's a HUGE strategic advantage with one simple game addition. The UAVs, artillery strikes, medic kits...it's all a major improvement over the others. I don't know why people keep saying the game isn't realistic enough even though it's trying to be. It's a Battlefield game for crying out loud!! BF2 is just like the other games in its core. The iron sights make the game a lot more "gunlike." It feels like you're actually shooting a gun moreso than the previous games.

The only small kits that damage a tank are the anti-tank and special ops kits, both of which are designed to take out tanks. Yes, small dunes and hills damage them, but it's never a lot unless you go off a huge dropoff. Regular grenades to next to nothing to the tanks, much less infantry rifles. It's all very balanced. The non-anti-armor kits have better automatic rifles but lack the firepower to take out tanks and vice versa.

The graphics are incredible in this game and the sound is superb. The controls and animations are extremely fluid, even moreso than the controls in 1942 (Vietnam had some weird prone issues).

A lot of people are complaining that BF2 can't decide whether it wants to be a tactical, strategic shooter ONLY or an arcade-like shooter ONLY. Why can't it be both? Both work, both are fun, and it appeals to both kinds of gamers. Choosing one or the other would make the game not fun for half the people that play BF. I personally love doing insane stunts in the aircraft as well as going in SWAT-style with my squad to a flag. I can't understand why you'd want one or the other when you can have both.

All BF2 is an updated 1942 with a few core additions that make it seem really fresh. That's all I wanted and I'm extremely satisfied. I love this game!

I still don't understand why EA / Dice keeps leaving out a favorite feature.

It took forever for them to add it to a patch on 1942. Hopefully they won't take as long this time.

I picked up the full game last Friday and played all weekend.

It seems that there is a problem with almost any "ranked" server...horrid lag even with low pings. I've found the "EA Official US..." servers to be the most stable but they are almost always full. I didn't have much lag with non-ranked servers. My internet connection is really damn fast so that's not it. The demo ran smoothly for me...

The server browser is indeed crap. It also works with gamespy but since I don't use that I'm not sure if it's any better. I don't know what ASE is.

I'm having a lot of fun with BF2 as well. My favorite class has to be assault with anti-tank coming in second, if only because every time I switch out of it, a vehicle kills me. The grenade launcher is a bit tricky to use at first but I got the hang of it now and I happily toss grenades through windows or at fleeing enemies 100 feet away. The machine gun in the support class is too inaccurate for my liking, with other guns you can use single shot to get at least a semblance of accuracy. Special Forces and medic is pretty cool, medic is easily the most useful class in the game and I'll probably unlock their weapon first. Anyway, I love the infantry combat, it's just loads of fun and the commander adds some nice depth to it.

Oh yeah, I don't think ASE works with BF2. You can search for servers but can't join a server directly from ASE. Even looking for a server in ASE and then writing down the ip is probably easier or at least more effective than using the crappy ingame browser though. For example, I go to the filters and checkmark the Not Full box but when I refresh, 90% of the servers are full? Ok....

Also, does anyone know how to skip past the intro stuff? There's usually something you can put in the command line to skip them for EA games.

(Challenge everything)

Okay so I'll be the first to admit that I'm a newbie to the Battlefield games, but is there only the one game type? Also, where's the campaign mode? Unless I'm missing something, it seems like there should be alot more to this game than one game type and a handfull of maps with no single player campaign.

Regardless, I'm having fun playing the game right now providing I can find a server with playable latency. Is there an unofficial TFP server? That would be pretty cool.

There isn't really a single player campaign like MOHAA in BF series. You can play "offline" with bots, but I don't think that's what you are looking for.

I was a little suprised too that there was only one game type - "Conquest" and no others, but I'm guessing that since that mode was far and away the most popular they decided to eliminate the others.

That's really disappointing about the lack of campaign and play modes. It seems like a half-assed attempt at game design thrown in the packaging and price of a full game. If they were going to cripple the game so badly, I wonder why they didn't at least design a ton of maps? This is quite irritating.

This game, like many others being released nowadays, is centered around online play. The browser interface could be redone, but i see no reason to add an extensive single player campaign.
