I love gaming. Period. I judge games on a case by case basis after looking at every judge-able aspect of them. Yes, I love the GTA franchise. I love the Resident Evil franchise. Hideo Kojima is a brilliant man. Gabe Newell, despite his laziness, is a brilliant man. I enjoy the FPS genre. I enjoy EA's trust over sports games. I enjoy racing, whether it be ridge, Gran Turismo, or Need for Speed. I enjoy my RPGs, whether they are turn based, point-and-click, pause-and-activate, or even first person.
What I hate, however, are people who refuse to look at what positive things a game might have to offer. I hate people who don't even try to get into the game, and dismiss it as crap.

I'd love it if people didn't feel the need to turn this into a fight. I disagree with some of the opinions in here, but I don't need to argue with people about it -- That's what "Politics" is for, people!

this thread is meant to be about listing games that people were dissapointed with and it was not designed for people to jump out and defend these games.
people have different tastes. please leave the attacks out of this thread. I dont appreciate people assuming that i dont try to get into games after i spend my own money purchasing them. Sure almost all games have some good points - that doesnt mean they are good, and most certainly does not mean that I will enjoy them. even if everyone else does.

I'm used to forums that are a tad more agressive (spf). I'm not saying that everyone is judging games poorly, but there are posts in here that are definitely of that disposition.

I wasn't as taken with Shogun as I thought I would be. Maybe I was too psyched up about it after reading a number of reviews, all glowing. I even started reading the art of war in preparation for it.
And. Well. The battles were neat. I liked that you could make people run away and that with good leadership you could route armies twice your size without many casualties. Two days later, five hours of playing under my belt, it was back in the box and back onto playing something else. Since I bought it for a fiver I wasn't that bothered, just felt a little dissapointed I didn't get much else out of it. Halo/Halo2 sure has come up a lot. I'm indifferent to them, to be honest. It can be fun when you don't know what to expect and you're running around doing the deathmatchly thing of picking up big weapons and suddenly a giant purple flying tank appears and annihilates you. Or when you're trying to bring a vehicle around to a friend for extra support and you end up landing on top of them. |

On the topic, I like the Madden games and the NBA Live games much less than their Sega Sports/ESPN Videogames counterparts. The basketball games just simply play and look better, and (at least the newest installment on Xbox) the NFL 2k series plays and looks much better than Madden. Gran Turismo. The depth of customization is amazing, but the races are monotonous, and you need to do so many to get upgrades. Can't wait for Midnight Club DUB edition, but in the meantime, I'll waste lots of money playing Initial D.

And remember, Opinions are like Assholes. Everyone's got one, but they arent always good. This however, does not mean you can go around saying "MY ASSHOLE IS BETTER THAN YOURS!", because frankly, thats not a comparison I want to make

First of all, it was clean - you can tell that bungie, although rushed to release Halo as a launch title, did their most important job - QA. Far too often am I disappointed by games who had such great potential, and were executed well, but simply fell short because a lack of QA - with Halo, movements were smooth. Aiming was relatively smooth. Granted, there were bugs (many of which are exploit-worthy), but negative glitches were always freak occurences (perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones to have avoided glitches in the original Halo thus far). Second, the gameplay - like I said, the controls were tight and responsive. Using the triggers for fire/grenade in conjunction with the sticks is perfect. Melee attacks have an excellent weight to them, and are extremely gratifying. Switching weapons (and dual wielding in the sequel) is relatively pain-free (unless weapons fall in stacked positions). The combat of the game, its selling factor, is ridiculously fun - I don't see how people can find it boring. Maybe you who frown upon the game are simply unchallenged, and should've been playing on legendary. In my eyes, though, I found heroic to be a blast - the AI was good, though not excellent. I found myself having to actually plan my attacks, sticking and moving like a goddamned boxer. Enemies take cover, flank, and use your reloading time as a chance to sneak up on you. What else do people expect from a first person shooter? What makes halo not good? Third, Immersiveness - and I'll end with this, for now. I'm sure people are will want to retort, which is what I expect from a good forum. The one thing that makes me love video games is immersiveness - plugging in that controller, hitting that button, and being sucked into a different world. When you wake up in that cryotank, you are Master Chief. Bungie's melding of clean, high quality graphics, engaging gameplay, tight controls, excellent audio (sfx and score), and well-paid attention to detail (the troops' comments, covenant's comments, etc) pull a willing (and open minded) player into the game and don't let go. I feel like a fucking review writer, and a shitty one at that. I'll do Doom 3 another time. Right now, I have more of Resident Evil 4 to be playing.

Any Zelda after and before the Ocarina of Time. With special emphasis on majora's mask and windwaker.
Also hate all racing games because they are all so repetitve (and probaly because i suck at them)... the only way i can stand to play a racing game is if i am at the arcade , sitting down, using pedals and shifting manually. I'll bear it long enough to humor my little brother. |
