Resident Evil 4

I can't wait to play this game!

I was never into the survival horror stuff much, but after playing 'Eternal Darkness' on the Gamecube I decided to pick up the first Resident Evil (which is actually a remake of the original). The game blew me away, the graphics is some of the best Ive seen, and the game is scary as hell.

As soon as Im finished with Resident Evil, Im going to pick up RE4 (releases next week). The camera is now fixed behind the player, and a lot of other gameplay mechanic improvements have been made. I just read the IGN review: 9.8 !

IGN review

Quote:
Resident Evil 4 is not only the most jaw-droppingly beautiful GameCube title to date, it is perhaps the prettiest game on any home console.
If you don't have a gamecube already, you might wanna get one for this game. For well under $200 you can get the console and RE4.

Edit:

Bestbuy.com - Gamecube + RE4

Just saw this on Bestbuy .. buy a gamecube ($99.99) and RE4 ($49.99) and get a $20 coupon

I played the demo yesterday at EB. I have to say, wow I am impressed. I have been a RE fan for years, I have played/beaten every title. The controls do take a bit to get used to but the game just plays nice..... The graphics are beautiful! I am going to have to pick this one up.

I hope it's actually scary. Resident Evil, while fun, has really suffered in the "terror" department with it's last few sequels, especially when compared to the horrific environments of Silent Hill and its sequels.

When I play these games, I want to be scared, or at least get the general discomfort and creepiness that comes along with playing something like this alone at 2 AM.

I'll check out the IGN review in a bit, but any word on the spook-factor? What about puzzles, are they average RE puzzles or will they be a bit more difficult this time around? I'm a big fan of Silent Hill for the fact you can choose your puzzle difficulty.

Looks like an awesome game, and I've heard a lot about the amount of open-solutions you have to escape any given situation.

I'm buying it. Fucking 9.8! Jesus. That's Buy-the-System-for-it material. Let's see what EGM gives it!

9.8! That is fucking incredible, I think Metroid Prime is the only other game to get that score.

I've been hyped for this for a while, ever since seeing the trailer from e3 several years ago when we knew it still involved zombies.

After playing the demo, I can't wait to purchase the full product, it's more than likely going to be the best of the series, possibly the best horror game ever.

EDIT: Also, Gamespy gave it a 5/5 and GMR gave it a 10/10.....I got the latest EGM issue yesterday and they said that they couldn't review it yet as they received it a bit late, but one of the guys stated "if you don't already own a GamcCube, buy one for this game!".....

Depends. I've always found the RE games had more of an 'oh shit I've got two bullets left and there's two zombies in that room fuckfuckfuckfuck I'm gonna die and it's gonna be scary oh shit there's one tapping outside that window is it gonna bust in? holy shit I ain't running down there' etc etc.

More or less. Heh =) There was actually one room in REmake where you can see the shadow of a zombie outside a window projected onto a wall. I wouldn't run down that hallway. Playing these games in the dark, alone, is where it's at. And it'll scare you.

I doubt it VERY much, there's plenty enough reason to get a Cube aside from RE4 it's just that RE4 is one the best.

The atmosphere in this RE is unlike any other, it feels more evil as it's namesake and definately a whole lot more darker. Also, there's hardly a place where you feel entirely safe, there's always a creeping fear that a Villager is at the door trying to claw it's way in, or that someone's going to throw a molotov through the window.

The Villager's may not be Zombies but they're close enough to provide that classic RE feel.

The IGN reviewer said he would have given RE4 game of the year 2004 if it had came out last year. That's right, Game of the Year over Halo 2, Half-Life 2, San Andreas, etc. It's that damn good. I can't wait to get it.

I believe Nintendo had a deal with Capcom to release it for GC exclusively, but now Capcom needs the money and it will be released for PS2 later in the year. I could be wrong, but I don't think Capcom have been releasing many games for the Xbox lately, for one reason or another.

I think it's because, more or less, they don't like Microsoft. And it just goes to show our little cube can match the big box with graphics if they try *grin*

The quality bar has been set for 2005. It's gonna be a good year.

I saw weak and GameCube in the same sentence, thus I laughed quite heartily.

Personally I think the Cube is capable of almost anything the Xbox can do graphically, and a lot of the time (Resident Evil, Metroid, RE4) it actually looks a whole lot better. I guess it really boils down to thr quality of your dev team's technical engineers.

No bias here, love all my consoles. RE4 in a week!!! (I live in NZ, getting it imported).

I agree, Metroid Prime looked great. I wouldn't have sold my GC if there were more games that appealed to me. 1 out of every 5 or 10 games that came out for the Cube were these mario-esque games that were marketed for pre-teens or newbs

Just got back from picking this up and this game is definately worth the hype. The controls are essentially the same, where you have to stop, aim, and shoot, but the new camera angle helps relieve the problem of not seeing whats ahead of you. The Letterbox format is cool too because it helps give it a nice cinematic feel.

But 8 out of 10 games for the PS2 are utter steaming crap. And a number close to that (but not so high) for the X-Box

The Camera needs zoomed out a bit, and there needs to be crosshairs instead of the laser beam, then I'd give it a perfect score. It's spooky and it's also tense with 20 guys running at you with only 6 bullets left.

This is more like the 10th Resident Evil

Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil 1
REmake
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil: Dead Aim

And there's a bunch I'm forgetting since it's so god damn early.

Villagers are a fickle lot. Some will gladly detonate their heads after you put one puny 9MM bullet in them from 100 feet, others will eat a full clip of TMP ammo and want some more.
