I went through the motions of downloading the game and can't get it to run. But when I right click on Half-Life 2eathmatch and select Properties, it says that it's only 98% amount acquired. The status keeps churning. I'm at 100% now...wish me luck.

Status update: Curse and tarnation! It says it's 100% downloaded, and when I click on the game to launch, status changes to launching...and then goes back to ready to play...damnit all.

You might be downloading other stuff. It works for me, just a bit laggy, and I can't see my fucking ammo count, so I don't know how much ammo I usually have.

Quite possibly. Trying to cross every t and dot every...lower case j.

Update: Checked all other steam apps, no downloading going on. Killed all extraneous processes. Hmmm...I guess I'll wait for the update to the update.

Let me tell you something, bandejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger 'til it goes "click." Sounds like a solution to your ammo problem. Bonus points if you name the movie.

After installing this so called Death Match, it broke Steam. I went to bed in a disgruntled rage. I woke up to see that Valve had fixed everything with another patch. That is, they fixed everythong but the netcode of course. No matter what I get HUGE Lag spikes on any server. That and the Game is seriously over balanced and only enjoyable for about 2 minutes. After I kill someone with a toilet to the head a few times, it loses all the novelty and I lose interest. Once again, Valve has failed to astound me with anything. HL2 was a dissapointment and now this. Why do I even bother anymore?

Installed it after reading this thread last night.

No problems whatsoever. Took less than 3 minutes.

Played it for about the same length of time. It was just silly. For good DM, you need wide-open levels and the one I was stuck in was some ruined warehouse thingey.

I tried CS again yesterday and I have to admit I enjoyed it. I'm surprised they haven't made any changes to it at all. Some new levels and some other scenario ideas would be nice. I also think you should be able to go prone...

I dont think prone would be good for CS but thats MHO. I love the deathmatch, its so fun. And to "Homey", you obviously never played a good deathmatch, there are lots of games where deathmatch is in small areas. But, since you are biased against HL anyways, you will hate anything they put out.

My personal pet peeve is the jumping in CS. They go to a lot of effort making it semi-realistic, and then you get people bunny-hopping. They did address this by slowing down a person when they jump repeatedly, but I would have liked to see a solution where if you're running fast, you don't do a running jump, but instead do a roll. Oh well. It's Minh's baby, he can do what he wants. At least DoD has a stamina meter. But I have my own issues about that game too.

I sometimes wonder what it would take to please people nowadays

To me DM is just for pure fun. Kill and get killed. If you want serious online gameplay, join a teamplay server/game.

As far as lagspikes it seems when you pick up something with a grav gun it increases alot for me.

Okay, all better. Coppertop and I played some DM, but the map seems poorly designed, weapons haphazardly laid out, and the overall feel just didn't seem quite there.

It just didn't grab my attention like the first Half-Life deathmatch did with maps like Crossfire, Elesnark, and Frenzy.

Prone for CS would be a bad idea. CS is meant to be slightly 'arcade'. Slowing down the gameplay further would completly ruin the feel of the game. Now back on topic, I've been playing HL2DM and I really enjoy the lockdown level, especially the fan trap.

The maps are pretty much ripped from certain parts of the single player game and given minor modifications. It does feel ad hoc though. The fact that there's only 2 maps and the initial bugginess (anyone else feel like jumping is stunted? And what's up with the HUD ammo displays? Wacky stuff!) makes me think that this was rushed through by Valve after people were upset that CS:S was the official multiplayer.

Still, killing people with toilets will never get old. Now that the SDK has been released we'll be seeing some maps from the online community. I sure hope a website like Radium comes along.

I've been playing around with it a little more, running around in the levels by myself to get a feel for it.

There was definitely something suspect with the server that Coppertop and I played on. The crossbow was missing from the spawn at the lower spot, which would have been the ideal weapon to negate the campers on the top of the building raining rocket hell down on the rest of us.

It reminds me of the mod for quake that had the air hammer. People would use it to knock away items and objects.

New maps? Is someone capable of doing a remake of crossfire? That would totally rock.

The HL DM map where you could retreat into the bunker and call down an airstrike that would kill everyone not in the bunker.

Crossfire had a good mix of open areas and enclosed spaces and no one particular place was an impenatrable area for people to camp. There was the egon gun and the HEV charging unit in the one room in the alley way, but even then, calling in the airstrike mixed things up enough to keep people from excessive camping.

Well I played some and I have to say I enjoyed myself. Whacking people with toilets and file cabinets is a nice twist to the same old deathmatch gameplay. I can't wait for more *real* servers to become available. (I suspect most of the servers thus far are people with DSL, and the network traffic involved in tracking all that flying office furniture is a bit much for even the most impressive home connections.) I also look forward to a time when the available servers aren't all so full; I actually do pretty well at the game when it's an insane spamfest, but I think I might enjoy it more when the action is not *quite* so frenetic. Either one of the available maps would do well with a half-dozen players IMHO, allowing for a teensy bit more time for actual strategy and less "die; respawn in the middle of an existing firefight; immediately die again" dynamic. Larger maps might accomplish the same thing, although I have no idea at what point larger maps might create performance problems.

All in all I'm really glad we have another option for online play (I have never, and probably never will, played CS). Fun stuff!

I have a feeling, due to the baddasssedness of HL2, that ALL the maps will be ported. As for TF2: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Coppertop, you soo funny. TF2 DEEED.

But that doesn't mean there won't be a TF mod...Please, oh mighty mod makers. I'll walk your dogs for you.

That would be orgasmic more then I could ever put in words....

That was simply the best map ever, runner up was the parking garage one that game with HL1. (Had some snarks, few boxes, this one area where you get onto the pipes and camp , and a alien jump pad thingy.)
