One thing I noticed, you HAVE to take Black arrow to get Explosive shot, so methinks its used to compensate the hunters who don't trap-dance for LnL procs. Secondly, when you do your 2nd spec, use it to play the other style you feel that will balance your style to a more complete package attractive for raids.

This is a new hunter spec I just made up and was thinking about trying:
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft True Shot Aura - Check Piercing Shots (Bleed damage) - Check Aimed Shot - Check Readiness - Check Scatter Shot - Check Wyvern Sting - Check Expose weakness - Check Thril of the hunt (mana regen) - Check 19% Extra agility from Lightning Reflexes + Combat Experience AP bonus from Careful aim and Hunter vs wild + True Shot Aura + Expose weakness the rotation would be: Serpent Sting -> Aimed Shot -> Arcane Shot -> Steady Shot x2 -> Aimed... ect Stack agi like crazy, just like surv. Grab a wolf pet and spec like this: Pet Calculator - Wowhead Furious Howl is an extra 320 AP + Call of the Wild is an extra 10% AP... if you are short on haste, take the one point out of wyvern sting and throw it into imp aspect of the hawk, then replace the glyph for the 2 sec reduction on aimed shot and use the glyph of imp hawk Like this: Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Someone want to try this out and let us know if it might work? This spec would give you tons of crit, a huge amount of AP, and decent survivability from some of the surv talents. Not completely sure about the rotation yet, the timing might be a little off...

What are you planning to do with that spec? I honestly believe that Hybrid hunters, Especially MM/Surv is impossible to make competitive with current talents. Both specs rely too much on their 51 point talent. If you're really interested it how it would perform you should run the spec through the spreadsheet and see what you get. I would but my excel trial expired :P

I was wondering about that too, you have too much of your points all over the specs but not enough to help sustain damage in a talent.
Too much bells and whistles but not enough punch. You ARE going to have to nail 51+ points somewhere if you really to be able to take full advantge of the spec you choose.

You should have been Survival in 3.08 patch. It was so much better. Kill shot wasn't on the global cooldown so you could macro it to your shots, There was no Black arrow blowing your trap cooldowns. You only had around 47 DPS talents in the tree so you could get fun stuff like extra range or scatter shot and you only needed 51 points in the tree and you could spend the rest getting things like improved stings, aimed shot, or go down BM and get focused fire. I'm currently sticking with BM for raiding. I go survival only for pet unfriendly fights and for questing because the burst damage is still ridiculous.
I love that call stabled pet cooldown refreshes when you switch your talent tree

well, for one, i'm getting so tired of all the DK's
I fully expected the initial population to have a lot and then trickle off, but it's been the opposite with my server, even throughout the nerfs there are more and more dk's popping up now. I'm probably one of the best geared DK tanks on my server but I simply just don't enjoy it at the moment. It doesn't matter what hybrid I roll, i'm always expected to fulfil some role aside from damage so i've been leveling some pure dps classes to get a feel for what I like. I'm enjoying my hunter again, Explosive shot feels a bit overpowered but meh, it's what hunters do. |

They call the DK a hero class. I call them a "Timmy" class. You know, Timmy was always that kid you played games with who always had to have the most power and do the most destruction. Always. overdoing it. Always.
Tell me what DKs don't have. Anyway, I found them boring to play. Just walk up and mash a few buttons and you'll be sure to take out all the mobs. I'm coming from a priest, though, so the difference is pretty great. I guess I'm just a healer at heart. Personally, in 3.2, I'm looking forward to the cheaper mounts. (I'm currently leveling.)

silly thing is they're buffing dk dps even more
Death Knight (3.1 Skills List / 3.1 Talent + Glyph Calc.) * Blood Plague: Damage done increased by 15%. * Blood Strike: The bonus damage this ability receives from diseases on the target has been increased to 25% per disease. * Chains of Ice: Now reduces movement by 95% instead of 100%. The main effect of this change will be that targets of Chains of Ice will not have to re-issue a movement command to continue moving. * Frost Fever: Damage done increased by 15%. Death Knight * Death Knight T9 Melee 2P Bonus (Class: Death Knight) -- Your Blood Strike and Heart Strike abilities have a chance to grant you 180 additional strength for 15 sec. * Death Knight T9 Melee 4P Bonus (Class: Death Knight) -- Your Frost Fever and Blood Plague abiltiies now have a chance for their damage to be critical strikes. Death Knight T9 Melee Relic (Rune Strike) (Class: Death Knight) -- Each time you use your Obliterate or Scourge Strike ability, you have a chance to gain 200 strength for 20 sec. however, all the tanking changes are a big "Fuck you" from blizzard. 2 seconds off a taunt that you shouldn't need if you're not retarded and 20 seconds off a cooldown that they're adding a minute to? yeah I think i'll just go enjoy those dps buffs and my guild can make the new warrior tank |

Looks like they trademarked "Cataclysm" so all bets are on them announcing the next xpac at Blizzcon this August, suspected to be the Maelstrom expansion which revolves around the Cataclysm that took place at the well of eternity.

Timmy!
Quote:
My first thought as I was reading this was of the South Park character Timmy. He's not quite all there. Compared to some games, WoW tends to be forgiving of sloppy play. I say this because I see people in their 60's who seem to have little idea of how to handle a fight and next to no understanding of how to function in a group. I might just be unlucky. The DK just seems to cater to this play-style: can't find a smart, creative way to handle those critters? Just brute force it! \/ |

Friend of mine just started playing again, he just hit 77, trained cold weather flying, and we were headed out to HoL to lvl him up in the instance. Flying there, my NPCscan started going nuts, "Time-Lost Proto Drake Found!" SOAB, we killed it, and HE won the roll. /sigh
He can't even use it until he hits 80.

honestly I don't get the big deal about DK's
Maybe it's because I spent the time learning how to play them, seems to me though that every dk i've come across on my hunter, I destroy. They blow deathgrip, i hit wing clip and disengage, they spend 25-35 seconds unable to close the gap, consequently the same cooldown as disengage so i can do it all day long. They're extremely kitable. with the different snares some of the pets have too, I can usually stay outranged of chains of ice too. against healers, they've got no MS type ability so it's perfectly likely that they can't out dps your healing on their own. with the new resil changes coming up they'll be even more of a joke to shrug off as far as melee based utility goes. DK's stopped bringing anything unique to the table the second they removed their hot removal utility. |
