XBOX and Router

I am in the dorms at college, and we like to play Halo 2 on the internal network for the building. I am using a router for my computer, and want to run my xbox through it to get on the network. When I get on the network when I unplug my router and plug my xbox directly in to my ethernet port in the wall. But when I go through my router i can not see the other games in progress.

My comp is set to 192.168.1.100 and my xbox is on static ip to 192.168.1.101 I have port 3074 forewarded for both udp and tcp and port 88 for udp. does anyone have any suggestions so i can play xbox on the network and use my comp at the same time?

Eh, Personally, I use a microsoft switch, and have 0 problems, it was just plug and play. However, a friend has a netgear one, and hasn't got his to work yet (also on campus)...

Could be the problem?

I have a linksys befsr41 router and on the xbox live web site microsoft says it is a compatable router with the firmware version I am using.

In your router config, put the xbox in the DMZ. That should solve that problem.

what is the DMZ? I don't see anything like that in my router config

dksuddeth 11-22-2004 08:54 AM

what kind of router do you have?

mechanicman 11-22-2004 10:42 AM

Its a linksys befsr41 running firmware version 1.05.00

In your router configuration portion, there should be a 'DMZ HOST' tab. Once there, you'll see an IP address of 192.168.1.0. the zero means that the DMZ is deactivated at the moment. put in the IP of your xbox in there. save settings and that should be it.

I have a linksys router that i recently set up; xbox connected. I've had problems and just call linksys direct for support. I recommend you do the same: 800-326-7114. Unless of course you're the type that likes to fiddle and figure these things out on your own ;) Personally I don't have the patience for that. Good luck.

Same deal here, linksys wireless router, wireless Xbox connection. The man I called at Linksys was so bored with my call, like I was the 384384295908th person to ask how to configure it.

I called today and the guy barely spoke English, so I understood about half of what he was saying. He changed my IP on my comp and put it on the DMZ. I told him I want my xbox to access the net without the firewall, not my comp. He was so lost I got off the phone with him and put everything back to the way it was before the call. I'll have to try again.

Just keep trying. I'm sure that there are a few good people working there that have taken a bunch of Xbox related configuration questions.
