I think they'll leave the servers up until late tonight or so...at least I hope. I wanna get in some more PvP before they shut em down!

As for the 300 gold, yes, I was including the amount I had spent on my equipment in that number. I also played with a guild of around 60 people who have played together for years in various games. The majority of them have been in cb since it started. We work together to get characters powerfull. My character was online almost the entire time the servers were up, as I was sharing him with a friend who didn't get in. He's currently taking a semester off college, and has a ton of time to waste. so he was online every time I got off. Call bullshit all you want, doesn't matter to me.

I use cosmos as my UI. Once you use it you'll never want to go back to the normal ui as it has tons of options to use. If you want combat in another window just grab the tab at the top and drag it over.

WoW left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I played for about 2 weeks in closed beta off and on, and didn't really care for the feel. When open beta came out, I tried it again, to my suprise, I like it.
Until last night, I hit level 25 and went to pvp, and the pvp was nothing but carebear DAoC type boring, useless, meaningless pvp, just people killing each other for no reason. And the size of the zergs, well, thats another issue in itself. I'm going to play it, but I was truely disapointed in what content pvp had, which was nothing. I hope the raid content, pvp content and other things go in soon after release. If it doesnt, when people start getting up there, it's going to be extremely boring. |

Well it's finally all over, went down at 8pm PST. I didn't think it was up most of the day and stayed away, but got in for an hour tonight. Dread Lords, huge things I couldn't even see the top of to determine what they were, being turned into a chicken for 30 minutes and killing a hordie while in chicken form, getting Van Cleef's fucking head, hanging out with TFPers inside and outside RedJake's clan, laughing, drinking, dancing, fighting, looting. When I logged onto my first test server at the start of the final Stress Test my /who all showed me to be the only person (and first i think) in the zone.
I seriously enjoyed these past few weeks. If I was employed I would say I was certain to be there first day of retail, as it is I'll have to see if I can at all. I got my Pally up to lvl 26 and finally realized I was enjoying the major changes they made on my class mid-test. Good game.

ERr, the week the die hard gamers will get to 30-40 and within a month your average player will be hitting 30-40...I hope they just had that aspect turned off. What disappointed me was seeing what Sony did for Galaxies and EQ2. Player cities, houses, guild houses, your own player website generated and hosted by Sony, a generated guild site, etc. WoW is just a straight, run of the mill MMO with no fluff and no extra niceties that you see in the more current ones.
Also, I found the economy to be dull. With only 10 primary professions and everyone can take 2, it's not very hard to find someone within a guild that has a profession you need something from. I don't see any type of real economy except higher level items ever really taking off, which is a shame. WoW is a good solid game, but it's missing the nice touches that make it great. The beta just ended 10 minutes ago.. Last edited by gariig; 11-18-2004 at 08:26 PM.. |

I got my Rogue up to lvl 19 withen the time frame of open beta, and I had skinning, and leatherworking as my trade professions, and I did skin every beast I killed, and many many more I didn't kill, and at the end, I had 1 gold, 6 silver, and a few copper, and I thought I was freaking rich! There are a few items in the game, if you know where to get them, that can be sold in the auctions that will net you huge profits, like the small pearls, that are a component in some leather making recipies. You pick them up from opening clams, and you only get 1 out of every 10 or so clams you collect, and the clams only drop from every 1 out of 10 or so crabs you kill, but people will pay (sometimes) 5-10 silver for them, I had 6-7 of them that I sold towards the end of OB that netted me most of my money. I used all of my leather that I skinned to make armor, which I used or sold for more than the leather was worth. I could see making tons of money off of skinning, but the game wouldn't be that much fun, all you would be doing is skinning, and not questing, or lvling up...
It was an awesome game, and I will be there on the opening day of retail. My only problem is that I cannot find a store that will let me pre-order a collectors edition of the game, they are all sold out! I want my Panda!

I had a Human Paladin that did Mining/Blacksmithing (big surprise).
I refused to touch EQ tradeskills, but I loved Mining and Blacksmithing.I could make items that were actually useful to myself and to my friends. Also, discovering a new mine (like mithril) for the first time is awesome."OMGOMGOMG MITHRIL,FUCKING MOVE" |

I was a hunter who took mining and engineering. While engeineering is not the best profession it complements the gun using hunter quite well. Engineering is pretty easy to get up 180 before you'll be needing better ore to help build up skill and you can make some nifty items such as target dummies and exploding sheep. This is were I ran into mining problems though my skill in engineering had bypassed what I was able to mine myself....and as a hunter/engineer I was pretty much poor. I only started to find iron mines near the end of the beta so I really didnt get much higher than 140 mining. If I go hunter I'll probably follow the same route though as I will have time to find more mines.

The best "untapped" resourse I found in the game is linen or silk shirts. The give no bonuses, in fact if you don't wear a shirt at all, it changes nothing, except how you look. I wanted a theme for my rogue, so I had Dark Leather boots, cape, everything, dark leather. But when I put on my flaming red shirt it just threw off the whole image. I probably whould have paid 10-15 silver for one, and I am sure that there are other people out there who care about apperence as well. Might be something to think about...

I did the mining blacksmith route for my pally too. I wound up making most of my own armor and about half of my weapons. I really enjoyed it and made my friends a bunch of stuff too. I needed 2 of those lusterous (sp?) (2nd level i think) pearls for my last/best chest armor and wound up paying 2.5g for 1 and 3g for another. Ya, I paid too much and wiped out my cash reserve but wow that was some sweet armor!
My comments on the economy. You really can't base your thoughts on the games economy on what you experienced in a 2-3 week period. The economy was in it's infancy in that time period. When last ST/OB started I was making a killing selling linen bags for 4s each. (my first ST toon was a warlock). as the economy got "older" I would up getting less and less for them (ya know that whole supply/demand thingee). Prices on "rare" trade goods like wool, medium/heavy leather & hides, bronze dropped pretty quickly as more and more people reached levels and content areas that allowed the supply to increase. I didn't start finding silver and iron until the last couple of days of OB, never got any mithril, but I rarely saw iron in the AH. I imagine though that another 2 weeks or so and it would have been relatively common. People that used the AH to sell stuff made lots more money than those who didn't. I met player after player who didn't use AH and dumped their green and sometimes blue items with a vendor. Meanwhile I'm crafting pearl handled daggers left and right and making a killing. The economy is somewhat simplistic but we saw it in its infancy. With 6g in my pocket at level 25 I found I had far more money than anyone else I talked to or grouped with. Of course 2 pearls and level 26 training left me with a lot less... I really miss it though! Must find some freelance work next week to pay for WoW. Must! Edit to say about the backstory (I'm not going to do hit by hit of IrishSean's issues, I think you must be getting old dude ) did you read any of the letters and other things you carried for quests? I thought it all fit in quite nicely with the backstory and I was really enjoying seeing what was going on...

Pearls come from the Oysters that the crabs dropped in Darkshore, you better believe I will be there ganking some crabs as soon as I get high enough lvl to kill those things! I think they were lvl 15-17 in the open beta. I only saw maybe 1 or 2 other people out there killing them too, such an untapped resourse!

Lustrious Pearls can be farmed off most lvl18+ sea creatures that drop clams which can be opened. Crabs in Westfall along the beach drop them so do the lvl18 Murlocks and the lvl20-25 Murlocks in the Swamplands drop the clams too. The chance of finding a Lustrious Pearl is about 1/30 clams.

This has been bothering me for some time now. What exactly does detect magic do? It sounds self explanitory, but i used it and didn't see its effect. Any mages out there that can help me on this one?

I have found it to be closer to 1/15-20 clams (oysters, whatever) I killed maybe 20 crabs in darkshore, got 2 pearls... maybe the odds were in my favor that day...
