World of Warcraft Open Beta Ends Tomorrow
Open Beta ends November 18th. ALL characters wiped.
That being said, I'm currently working on the guild webpage for Heroes of the Universe. So far the guild experience has been good. Anyone who is interested in joining, as usual, leave your comments and what your character's name might be. We'll get this going the 23rd ASAP.

Two General Questions:
General: Should I uninstall the game in prep for Tuesday or can I just enter the CD key on the already installed beta? General: I choose to play as a Night Elf Warrior and I got to level 20 (I just played on the Open Beta) and I am not sure what I am going to play in the retail version. I can't see playing the same character again as I don't want to do all of those things over and over again. What is everyone else going to do? Try something new or restart with the old? Just wondering and thanks

Lag was pretty bad, but the game wasn't all that fun... maybe I'm getting old, but games lately don't seem to have that joy I remember when first playing Asheron's Call.

OK:
1. Lag was terrible 2. Lots of clipping issues 3. Lack of balance between races or classes 4. Quests incredibly repetitive, mind numbingly so 5. Quests have no relatinship to storyline at all as far as I could tell up to level 25 6. Lack of customization options for character appearance 7. Extremely bland range of options for appearance 8. No option to change job and keep the same character, I think FFXI spoiled me here 9. Chat commands use non-standard commands 10. PvP seems to have very little consequence for dying 11. Professions extremely unbalanced for making money 12. Money means nothing, incredibly easy to get I'll think of more...

I probably wont be getting the game until after semester break when i go back to school (i don’t have broadband at home). Although the lag was shitty, i expect it to be better once it goes retail.
I've also been having the character dilemma. I got my NE Hunter up to lvl 22. I want to see what a hunter can do at higher lvls, and I'm sure I would be able to get to my lvl fast since i already know what to do, but I’m not too crazy with the idea of redoing what I’ve done up to this point I think I'm going to try being a caster. I can't imagine playing the game as a ranged/caster without having a pet to tank for me, so I'm going to make a HU Warlock who has the ability to summon pets. (and his own horse!) Quote:

How much fun was this last day? There were people dancing nake in the streets (me) and mages shooting off fireworks like there was no tommarow. I guess there isn't. Horde every where, Raids going on from both sides, it was crazy. We dueled like mad, and said our good-bye's until retail. Awesome game. Is it the 23rd yet?

I really enjoyed the one week I got to play it. Yes, item lag was an issue at times but hey it's beta. My first 20 levels I thought the quests were kind of repetitive (incursion type quests like kill x amount of y mobs or deliver this not to person p at location z).
Then I did my first instanced quest, VanCleef in the deadmines and I was blown away. Awesome stuff. Not to mention the Paladin quest available at level 20 which is a fairly huge undertaking. Sadly I didn't get to finish it before beta closed. Keep in mind that most storydriven quests are NOT in beta and are tested internally since Blizz didn't want to spoil too much. So there should be plenty more to come in retail. I will definitely buy and play WoW but not until it comes out in Europe. Mainly because it's a hassle getting my American friends to pay for my account and secondly...let them deal with the crap (read bugs) on launch day and the following weeks --jaded

I had over 50 gold by level 10, mainly off skinning my kills and the kills of anyone else around me who didn't have it. At the time I left I had well over 300 gold and top notch equipment.

I won't be buying the game, but not out of any flaw...at least with the game. I can't afford to own a game that I play to the exclusion of all else. Tuesday I just sat at my computer from 8 AM to 1 AM, getting up only to use the bathroom or get something to eat. It's a great game, and fun as hell, and I'm sad I can't let myself own it.

Yeah I was pretty bummed I couldn't partake in the craziness lastnight. I had to spend the evening packing for my trip home for Thanksgiving. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying retail, but probably not for a week or two after it's release.
Looking forward to seeing you all again out in the WoW world. -T

I played Closed Beta since last March with an extremely strong economy and my character never had more than 30 gold on hand. My brother's character had 200 gold at one point which is considered extremely rich. There's no possible way your character had 50 gold at level 10 and especially not 300 gold by the end of OB. People who played the game since March have a hard time getting 300 gold, much less in a week and a half. -Lasereth

I am going to buy it, but not sure if I will get it Tuesday. I don't want to get sucked in right now as I got a ton to do around the house and WoW will just make me forget to do stuff like that! I'm going to run two characters; Orc Hunter with mining/engineering and an Undead Rogue with skinning as a profession. In OB I got my Hunter up to 26 and Rogue up to 20. I really liked the Hunter in both PvP/PvE...I had heard a lot of bad stuff about them but once I learned the ins and outs the class really shines. Add the nifty(but bank account draining) tools of engineering and you have quite a good PvP character. People just don't expect exploding sheep these days.
Las - I could see Sean getting a ton of gold...but 300 is a lot. There were skinable corpses everywhere. That was the reason I started skinning on my Rogue. I would send the skins to my hunter who could use some of the materials in engineering, the others I would sell in the AH...I made some good cash which I reinvested back into engineering. Either way....look out you Alliance scumbags, this Orc is gonna be hanging your skulls on my wall!!

I'm not your average casual gamer either. I don't go into games to dick around. I go into them with the intention of being the strongest, richest person there. Don't call bullshit on something just because you weren't able to catch on to something and use it to your advantage. Hunting in populated zones made skinning extremely profitable. Corpses other people kill and don't skin are like picking up dollar bills off the street.

Onyxia is pretty cool looking, even if the group of 40 or so I was with did get wiped with her at around 80% life. What level did you guys get to that seem to know everything about the game?

I would believe it if you played in Closed Beta though. Possibly. The only reason I had 250 G at one point is because I found an armor piece in a level 50+ zone that drops about 1 out of 10,000 monsters. Other than that, I would pretty much only have around 30-60 G at one time. That's only because you can accumulate money really quick in places like Stranglethorn Vale, etc. Which is only fightable at level 35 and above. Sorry man.

I just realized I will believe you if you show me a screen shot of your character with 300 Gold. But I'm guessing you "deleted your character" or something like that. Or you won't "get to the servers in time" before the Open Beta ends today. How convenient

There's two or three people in my guild who are skinners and they're also calling complete bullshit. Two of them skin every single monster they see and say that they can only make about 10s per hour skinning. In other words, around 1G per day is reasonable. There's simply no possible way you have that much money in WoW, especially when others that know how to get massive quantities of money (me) can't even make 1G before level 10 reasonably. 300G in 1.5 weeks is absurd. I believe with 100% confidence that you've confused what 1 Silver is and what 1 Gold is. If you switch around your terms then it makes sense. -Lasereth

Question:
Caydiem posted: The Central and Eastern realms are coming down for maintenance. This is not the end of Open Beta; the realms should be back up in approximately two hours. Thank you for your patience! While the website reads: In preparation for the upcoming retail launch of World of Warcraft, we will be taking the North American open beta servers offline on Thursday, November 18. While this will mark the end of the open beta test, there will still be some work left for us to do. To provide the best experience possible at launch, we will be making numerous final optimizations to our hardware based on the data we've acquired during the open beta test. Conflicting information? Or maybe I'm missing something? |
