Killzone
Well, for those of us that don't have an X-Box, but a PS2, there is Killzone. It's a good game, excellent graphics, pretty good gameplay, controls are rather simple and easy to learn. However, it's main problem is that it stands in the shadow of Halo and Halo 2. It's actually way too realistic. It seems as if Sony Computer Entertainment America used too many things from SOCOM and SOCOM II. Granted, both SOCOMs are great games, because you get what you expect, a realistic, special forces sim. However, Killzone was touted as the Halo Killer for the PS2, I was optimistic, but I feel rather let down. It's got pretty much the same basis as Halo 2, aliens invade Earth, it is now your job to save said Earth. However, it doesn't have the same mystique and engagement that Halo gives its players. A nice option that you don't have in Halo is the play of another character, stealth missions get an assasisn, need an all around guy, you got him, demo expert, check, etc. However, that's the only column that shifts in favor of Killzone. It isn't as smooth as Halo, that's for sure, unless you sprint, you're not getting anywhere that fast, and your stamina goes down when you sprint. Granted, it's a good game, but, BUT if you're going to tout a game as a Halo Killer, you better deliver, and you better deliver big time. If I want to play a realistic shoot 'em up, I'll break out either SOCOM, but for an alien invasion destroy everything and save the day game, give me Halo, unfortunately, my friend is gonna start charging me rent if I don't leave his apartment when I've got the love jones for some Halo. So alas, I must save my money, the very little of it I have extra, towards an X-Box, and be behind the times for Halo and Halo 2. Until then, Killzone will have to do.

I'm digging Killzone. Only problem I have with it is that there's no jump button. In multiplayer it doesn't really seem needed, but in the single player game, it is sorely needed.
The inclusion of bots is a plus, so you can play multiplayer by yourself for practice. I enjoy this game. I don't compare it to Halo.

I've played the demo a couple of times, thoughts so far:
Getting stuck in the scenery sucks, this happened to me three times so far, once in barbed wire. Aiming feels just awkward, maybe because I've been spoiled by mouse-aiming on the PC. Could be an entertaining game, but definately not worth the new release price, might be better off buying it when it gets a bit older.
