Jeopardy contestant wagers "1337" on final jeopardy..

Not sure if anyone saw today's episode, but the dude who won the match wagered "1337" on the final jeopardy question. It was obvious it was meant in the "leet" sense because earlier there had been a category on video games and he easily knew all the questions. Anyway, I found it amusing and I'm sure he's gonna have a ball talkin about it on irc later. :P

BTW, the guy was like 20 years old...(it was the college championship)

Destrox 11-11-2004 07:39 PM

hehe, thats pretty cool and so very nerdy.

Keep up the good work I say.

Redjake 11-11-2004 07:44 PM

I would pay good money to see that.

Did he win?

Coppertop 11-12-2004 11:37 AM

My girl was wondering what in the hell I was laughing at when we saw this. She's not a gamer so I had to 'splain. :icare: She's so cute.

Yeah, he kicked everyone's ass. He was so far ahead he couldn't lose, hence the bet.

LaughingCow 11-12-2004 12:14 PM

Haha, yeah I saw it and had a good laugh.

meepa 11-12-2004 12:17 PM

YES! I saw that. It took me a minute to realize why I recognized that number, and then I busted out laughing. The silent shout-out to all the nerds and gamers! That was just cool.

Redlemon 11-12-2004 12:43 PM

(nevermind)

1slOwCD8 11-12-2004 12:58 PM

Can someone please explain to me what 1337 is, cuz i have no idea whats you guys are talking about?

freeload 11-12-2004 01:06 PM

Ah...thanks to WikiPedia I can say:
1 = l, 3= e and 7=t => leet

1337 means he's the best

1slOwCD8 11-12-2004 01:17 PM

Hehehe...... thats awesome. I wish i would of seen that, to see the other people on the shows reactions.

Charlatan 11-12-2004 01:21 PM

That's ballsy...

UberMinion 11-12-2004 01:42 PM

That is pure comedy! I love low key geek references like that

m0rpheus 11-12-2004 02:31 PM

That is so good. I wish I'd seen it. Thanks for bringing to our attention man

00111000 11-12-2004 02:31 PM

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! That is pretty damn funny though.

SecretMethod70 11-12-2004 07:58 PM

haha that's awesome :) With such an obscure wager, did Trebeck make any comment on it at all? I suppose he wouldn't, but you never know.

oblar 11-12-2004 09:39 PM

hmm, this is one time I would like to find a torrent to that particular episode. I wish I caught Jeopardy more often, but it is just difficult at times.

I would have laughed my ass off if I had seen that wager. I think it was last week I had to explain to my roommate what 1337 meant.

mastermac2000 11-12-2004 09:51 PM

makes me wonder how many of the average americans were going what is he wagering so low for

soloist124 11-12-2004 09:55 PM

wow, that is awesome, he's reppin the computer industry!

Derwood 11-13-2004 12:14 PM

Makes me wish I had my camera with me when I saw a billboard on the subway tagged in leet. I was like "are the 14 year old nerds packing heat now?"

Slavakion 11-13-2004 04:56 PM

In regards to that wikipedia excerpt, do any true hackers use 1337-speak anymore? I know that if I ever become one, I wouldn't. Too much association with lame CS players.

Paradise Lost 11-13-2004 05:24 PM

You'd like to think the association with lamers would stop people from using it, but every time
I talk with my one buddy on AIM (who's definitely NOT a lamer) always uses leet speak at
least once, or a weird computer-forums word in place of the real word, like b7 instead of banned.

Esoteric 11-13-2004 06:00 PM

Hahaha, that would've been funny to see.
