Just got back from class and all the FP keys are gone, lok what a joke. I'll be waiting patiently for Blizz to release keys though. They've supposedly got plenty to go around. Anyone know how downloading the client is going for people? I'm hoping the one I've got will work out.

WoW crazy cant believe they had such a limited number of keys.. hopefully the rest are going slowly all up tomorow... would suck to get my key on the last day of open beta :P

If you already have the client you can patch it up by just typing random words into Account and PW btw...

Man I got into beta and I do like the game. Everything they siad they where gonna put in is inthere. The game does seem a bit linear though but other then that still a great game. Blizzard might have done it again.

U guys still on the CB PvP server or did u move to East PvP 4?

I wish they would tell us if there was a character wipe comming after OB. I know that was the plan but from the forums it seems that they are considering not wiping the characters.

I am still on the original PvP server, just finnished testing a druid now I am goning to make a Paladin to complete my run of all the classess (sept the Shaman).

i got a key but when i try to d/l it says there was a network error press f5 to refresh, yet is does nothing, i have tried on friends computers also. any ideas?

if anyone happens to get an extra key by some means.....send it this way....

Man, I'm glad I've already downloaded the client, but cmon now, release some new keys!

Wow, was slow as shit downloading, so I tried updating my network card drivers. Switched from the standard Linksys drivers to the drivers put out by the actual chip manufacturer and am no wdownloading at 944kb rather than 15.

Wow that's extremely fast. Are routers magically able to speed things up somehow? I kept on reading how messing with router settings can really help bandwidth, however I used no router at all (just high speed cable) and got about an average of 40kb over 21 hours...

My question is what is it uploading, it's pulled like 72 MB from me so far...

I'm averaging about 40kb/s so... i'll be done by tomorrow.

I was under the assumption that it's like a big torrent network so other people are downloading from you as you download it? But then I got to wondering, why had I already uploaded more than I downloaded (IE uploaded what I hadn't already downloaded...) throught the entire download...?

It might pick up speed as more people download it.

Just started downloading the client, need to wait for the site to come back up to get my key. They should have prepared for this many people. I'm gonna be seriously pissed if I download the entire thing and not get a key...

Yeah they JUST took down the signup page. I was halfway through signing up when it died. Not that it matters since it's going to take me 4 days to finish this download. The torrent is working badly (I've never had any torrent work very well) and I can't even get in line on Fileplanet.

Why do we have to get the OB installer from Blizzard or Fileplanet? Isn't there a faster DL site out there some where else that hosts files?

The Blizzard Downloader is taking forever. Just got to 2% because it won't go faster than 10 kb/s. I don't know if it's my connection (DSL) or if it's the amount of peers in my area. Either way, I have a feeling I'll wake up tomorrow and not even be at 50%. And on top of that, I haven't gotten my key yet. I seriously doubt all the keys will be gone by tomorrow, but it's possible. I've been looking forward to this for months and months, been unable to get into CB or any of the ST, and really want to play so I know what class to play come retail. Oh this is a bad night...

Edit: I suppose getting a key is more important, seeing how those are limited. The OB Installer can be downloaded at any time, but it won't do you any good if you don't have the key.

If you want to play with the best, East 16 is the only way to go! Well because I'm there.. Duh! :)

Cool, I've been playing on East Coast 16 for a couple of days now. I have a lvl 16 pally named Nemoh. I think I'm going to keep with the pally for now.

I hate to discourage you, but it took me 3 days to download the client on a 5 megabit connection. :( It DOES have a lot to do with network settings though, so I'd open the recommended ports on your router.

If you want to know which class ya wanna play I can give ya a recommendation. Just tell what kind of gamer you wanna be!

I don't remember anything about opening ports on my router... Do you have any more info on this? also, do you know what it's uploading?

I am DLing at 44kbs, and at this rate, it will take 14 hours to get it all (24%) If I can speed this up any, I really want to know how. Either way, see you all in there... eventually.

I had hoped to be playing by Tuesday, since I have the next couple days off work, but I guess not... Oh well.

I was leaning towards a mage class, since I've been a melee in another MMORPG. I didn't want to be a healer (not my play style, I can't stand it when people die and it's my fault), mage didn't seem all that appealing, shaman seemed too focused on parties, and druid was only for 2 races, neither of which I wanted to be. So I started to focus on Warlock. Warlock really goes well with my style, and just looks like a riot to play. My only problem is with the soul stone requirements, and how you can only get them off of honorable kills. I'm definitely going on a PvP server (in WoW, it's PvP server or don't bother playing), and many have said Warlocks run out quickly with no way to get more if you're fighting in a low level zone. So that's why I wanted to try it out, and a couple of other classes as well, before I sink a bunch of hours into a class that's excellent in PvE, but not so hot in PvP. Suggestions?

Well I am on DSL and its d'ling at 100KB/sec so do not be discouraged. And i got my key....woot!

edit: the ports it told me to open were 7881-7999, 3724-3724 and 6122-6122 in the port range. I dunno if my router is different in this aspect but i hope it helps.

Yes! I got my key! Well, now that I've gotten that, I don't have to worry about missing out. I just have to wait days until it finishes downloading...

Lol no rush to get the game guys. I'm finally in and it's such a slow moving game that it was like hitting a brick wall from spending so much time stressing about. It'l come, and when it does, join server 16 east coast so we can blast together ;)

It was 5 hours ago when I first posted about the download, then it was at 2%, now it's at 12%. So by my calculations it will take about 45 more hours to finish the download. The routers might have something to do with the slow downloads, but I forwarded the ports it asks for to the best of my ability and it still complains about being behind a firewall and tells me to forward them. Maybe it would be more effective to drive down to Irvine and raid Blizzard HQ for a disc. ;)

At 43% now....

Hopefully it will be done by the time I get home from work. :)

I have a few questions and I hope this is the right thread for this: 1) How and where can I sell all of my excess loot? My inventory is quite full (even with two bags) and I could certainly use some extra dough. Second, I have some staffs and axes that I would very much like to use but I don't have the skill/abilities to use them. I am a level 10 Night Elf Warrior (I started playing on Sunday) and this is my first attempt at such a game so I apologize if my questions are silly. Thanks for any help and or suggestions you can offer. Thanks.

I'll wager that if you know what you're doing then Warlocks are probably the best PVP class in the game. They're incredibly powerful with their fear spells! I've not played a Warlock so I can't tell ya how bad the Soulstone thing is but I've *never* seen another Warlock complain about it.

Go to a vendor that sells stuff and right click ln him or her. Then right click on any item in your inventory that you want to sell and you'll get money for it. You have to go to staff and axe trainers to use those items...can't tell ya where those trainers are, but they're in every major city (only played a warriot to 12).

No west coasters??? Im on Server #14, Pacific. I am loving this game so far..I've gotten my Orc Hunter up to 21, I love the class...people say it's gimped but now that the talents are in things are better. I can solo quite well and in dungeon instances I can do great damage as long as I don't grab aggro. I also took up engineering/mining as a profession. Oh man can you make some cool stuff. I've been making target dummies and just dropping them in towns to see peoples reactions to a waving wooden guy. If you're on Pacific 14 look me up, name is Malarchuck.

If you're just starting off DO THE QUESTS!!! I cannot stress how good these are for exp!!! If you're just out there killing monsters you're missing out on about 50% of the exp you can be getting. Most of the things you are killing are involoved in some sort of quest.

West coast here well close enough was planning on a west coast server in AZ..dl status 39% 9 more hours to go..

You guys might as well play east coast if you're playing alone! I'm in California but play these games to be with friends so I'm hoping to hook up with the other guys like Lasereth and RedJaket and maybe Crackprogram if he ever finishes downloading ;)

All I have to say is... It took me no less than 12 different usernames to finally get one to register that wasnt already taken. And we are talking obscure stuff--I broke out the Silmarillion appendices and started trying random names. Eventually I just ended up having to tack a shit ton of number on the end of a name. I felt like I was on AOL trying to register a screenname...

The WoW downloader (Blizzard issued) has caused my PC to reboot 3 times,ended up downloading from Fileplanet,which errored out after two hours of waiting.

Goddammit...I'm sitting at 42% after about 24 hours and bored as hell. I connected straight to my modem since I kept getting a "Firewall detected" message whenever I was connected to my router. But instead of speeding it up, it just made it a more reliant 10kp/s...So frustrating considering how long I've been waiting for this game.

Open Beta Launched Today, Open Beta Download Finished Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow... How did some of you get this done so fast? 30 hours later I'm at 62%. If Blizzard uses this downloader for retail patches I'm going to refuse to buy WoW on principle. SOE may have ruined EQ but at least they're not too cheap to pay for bandwidth. Vivendi must be responsible.

Nonsensical- I know a few people downloaded the OB client before it was actually released to beat the lines. A few websites were hosting it...

I'm not sure how i feel about the quest system (im not sure if im doing it right)
But it seems kind of dumb that party members dont share quests.
We both have to actvate the quest, we both have to run to the moon well.
If its a gathering quest, we have to gather twice as much if there are two people in the party.
I suppose it makes since, but I was just use to the Diablo system.

you can share quests. i dont remember how though, and since servers are down to maintenance i cant check

There is an option in the quest log to share quests. If you click on that the party memebers will get a dialog box to click accept or decline. If it is a secondary quest you will not be able to share it until they do the previous steps.

I finally finished downloading it, but as soon as I finished installing it, I find that servers are down. Something doesn't want me playing this game. :(

As soon as servers are back up, I'll make my character. I've decided to make a Night Elf Druid, since you blokes are going Alliance. I'll post my name in the other thread as soon as I make it, so you guys can get in touch.

I think that just gives the quest to the party member who does not have the quest. Each member will still have to do the quest for themselves.
If the quest is to collect 7 silk venom sacks and there are two members in the party, 14 sacks will have to be collected for everyone to be able to continue.

But like i said, it sort of makes sense so people cant get rushed and stuff like that.

I see your point but the thing with that is you are now most likely killing things at a faster pace and getting whatever quest item you need faster. Case in point - I've had a quest to collect 60 Quillboar tusks and I've been doing it off and on as I pass through the camps to stonetalon mts. Last night I hooked up with a shaman who was doing the same quest. I had about 14 when we started...about 15 mins later I had my 60 as did he.

umm It took me 22 hours but .. im satisfied any one going online have any suggestions on whats the best character and whats the best classes. Last thing Im currently on 56k because I switch cable company .. so is it possible to play WOW with 56k ? or its not

i quit early tonight because of too much lag...was unbearable. My friends wern't having any problems so it wasnt the server's fault. Ill try again tomorrow.

Heinous lag tonite, unplayable atm. Hope they get it fixed before release, would hate to see a game with potential to go the way of Shadowbane.

How funny - they release open beta on the same day EQ2 ships.

Looks like Sony wins round 1 though - the EQ2 release was very very smooth, surprisingly enough.

Finally finished and installed pretty painlessly. Can't play a whole lot until the weekend though.

ATM, we are horde, on East Server 4.

The lag issues has been a bit of a rollercoaster. It mainly rears it's head during primetime and in some weird fashions. Had to expect this as really this open beta is serving as the ultimate stress test. Overall it is still one of the most polished games before release I've yet to see.

I went to bed early last night after a particularly bad lag spike booted me from the game. I thought, "If I go to bed early, I can wake up early and get some play time in." Nope... So I went to work thinking I could unwind afterwards by killing some shit with my axe. Nope... I just got home and the servers are down. I must say Blizzard is taking the saying "Leave them wanting more" a bit too far.

Very Dissapointing when your talking about release in ten days. The game doesn't seem ready to release to me. They really need to figure out their network code and fix the issues first.

Well, since Blizzard has stated "We're not fixing the lag for observation purposes" and that "the lag will be competely gone for retail," I don't think we have anything to worry about. If you've played the game without the horrendous lag during OB then you know how fun it can be. I admit the lag is enough to make players quit, but Blizzard has stated that they know of the problem and aren't going to fix it during OB because they <I>want</I> the game to be laggy. If it's laggy all the way up until release then they'll know <I>exactly</I> what they need to do to have efficient servers. OB is a testing ground, not a free trial. Blizzard is having their way with the OB testers, whoring them out as candy apples that exist only to make the retail game more enjoyable. They're doing a very good job at it!

I beta tested City of Heroes, so as soon as the lag occured in WoW, I knew it was here to stay. I don't see why so many of the people who got into OB feel the need to shout out how bad the lag is, or ask when it'll be fixed. These people need to be beaten. Blizzard is doing it on purpose, to test the servers so it won't happen in retail, when people are actually paying to play the game. "I'm not going to get the game because the lag is so bad" just screams "idiocy" at you.
