Halo 2 Tuesday...First reviews up today

IGN gives it a 9.8 (!) and Gamespot gives it 9.4.

I really frickin' can't wait.

Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a PLATINUM award. That's straight 10's across the board, an honor which one game every 1-2 years gets. That's saying a lot from EGM.

I've been playing it for the past few hours and quite frankly I am amazed by it. Amazing graphics, excellent narrative, brilliant gameplay, this is everything I hoped for. It isn't without it's faults though, sometimes it's really obvious when models and textures increase/decrease in resolution but it's not a deterrant enough to take away from the overall experience.

And my god was I surprised in the third act when the Arbitor was involved Spoiler: I mean I had NO IDEA that I'd get to play as one of the Covenant!!!

Amen

EDIT: OH SHIT, and that Scarab (?) slash Spider Vehicle in the City, FUUUUUCK!

I LOVE it when PS2 players post in an XBOX thread contributing nothing to the thread and only to flame.

sorry but i just think that halo is not a good game. I am not dissing on the xbox whatsoever. Just on Halo. I played through the entire first game, groaning at how pathetic of a game it was. But to each his own i guess. And the last comment by me was saying that GTA: san andreas got better scores and was touted as the ps2 greatest game just like halo 2 got touted as the x box's greatest game.

"the greatest xbox game doesnt compare to the greatest ps2 game or pc game...."

I don't see halo mentioned, just xbox.

if you looked at the link that Jeff(the starter of the thread) gave you would have seen that they called Halo 2 the best Xbox game ever. This in my opinion is completely wrong. There are far greater Xbox games. But have fun with Halo 2, i know i will end up playing it because everyone else will be...

I think we all know not to trust IGN and that Gamespot is a much better review site. I mean i'm sure there are sites that claim Barbi to be the best game ever, but that doesn't mean it's true.

Also i'm not sure how much you can really say about Halo 2, in fact i'm not sure anyone can say much about Halo 2. I think this game will be ALL about the XBOX Live capability and until it comes out for a bit and everyone is online there's not point in rating just how good it is yet.

I just finished picking up my copy and I creamed my pants. Now I'm about to play it. I suspect that I will cream my pants again in a few minutes.

EDIT: Bungie knows how to make an adult person cry (or at least jerk a tear). Duel-wielding two plasma pistols has certainly been my religious experience for the day.

Picked mine up over lunch. Now I've finally let myself really get pumped. Just a few more hours of work, then some time in the gym, then dinner, then I can stay up much too late and play!!

Peter Moore (Bungie) just stated they have done over $100 million in sales in the first day so far. HOT SHIT. That beats out a majority of Hollywood blockbusters WEEKEND sales.

of course, you don't pay $50.00 to go to the movies (almost, but not quite), but still, it's a huge accomplishment.

Just picked up my copy too. Come on 5 o' clock!

Pixelbend.. But they didn't spend 40 million making and marketing this game either (unlike Hollywood blockbusters). Bottom line, Bungie just make old Billy Gates a BUNDLE. All of Bungie piled onto 2 busses last night stocked with kegs and full bars. Drove to various game outlets to give away freebies and such. My buddy didn't even get home until 4am last night, but was at work today by 10am. Says everyone in the office is playing Halo2 today except Moore, who is watching the sales figures and counting his bonus.

Problem being, you get ~70 hours of gameplay out of San Andreas, and then you're done. You get ENDLESS hours of gameplay out of Halo 2, because it is multiplayer (and online enabled). Plus, Halo 2 doesn't suffer from the horrible darnkess problems that really affect SA gameplay (on a properly calibrated TV, anyways).

Plus, in a practical sense, Halo 2 is just a more fun game to play - you can play it sitting alone (single player or via going online), or you can play it with a group of friends when you're just hanging out/screwing around/pregaming before a party. You can't really play San Andreas with a group of people, unless you have a lot of people who like to sit around and watch.

I've been playing Halo 2 for a few days now, and its pretty awesome. I finished the campaign fairly quickly (11 hours). It has a great story, but I wish it was longer. The in game graphics are awesome, but the cutscenes are awful. They are worse than the original Halo. The audio is absolutely amazing. It sounds great in 5.1 surround. The control scheme is as good as it gets for console gaming, which in my opinion works really well. The multiplayer is really where it is at. It awesome to have all my buds in a party on Xbox Live, and stick together for the night. Xbox live makes it very easy to find games and stay with the same people over an extended period of time. I can't believe how well the game runs during multiplayer. It seems like there is no lag at all.
All in all, I think that Halo 2 is awesome. When I play video games, the number one thing that I'm interested in is if I'm having fun. I've never had more fun playing any other game (except maybe Zelda on N64).

I really don't understand why cut scenes need to be rendered on the fly anyway. Wouldn't it be better to convert them to a video format and play them on a cue?

but that would make sense.
this is a microsoft product
hence it should have minute details neglected in order to piss everyone, myself included, off
nothing is worse than wondering why the hell keye's daughter is floating around in the air in a chair and then being slammed in the face with a star cruiser's interior

that said, the game rocks at least 18 times more than the original
i only have one complaint
where the hell are my health meter and health pickups?
what happened?
does the master chief not have a more advanced suit?
wouldn't you think that in a more advanced suit, they'd keep a health meter like in the old one?
shit.
and one other thing
maybe it's b/c i'm using the old controllers or something, but i can't seem to freaking get default controls on the thing.
all i get is inverted
i hate inverted and whoever thought it up should be stabbed in the eye.
that's why i can only stand it in 7 hour blocks
