Xbox Live Troubleshoot

I got live today and tried to set it up and it says that it won't connect, so I went through all the troubleshooting things that it does, it gets my IP address and all that jazz, but still won't connect. I'm in a dorm, and my internet connection is good, anyone care to help me?

If you're in a dorm are you going through a proxy with a login/password?

Nope, no password required, I e-mailed the on-campus service provider and a lady wrote me back a message that said:
"We do not offer ethernet connections for Xbox or PS2 at this time.
Thank you."
Is that possible, shouldn't just an internet connection be enough?

Your in the dorm that is the problem right there. I had that problem last year, one of the main reasons I moved out. The school is blocking a required port that the XBOX needs to connect to live servers. Solution? Yes, there is one. It was kinda dumb luck, but I bought the XBOX Wireless router (long story) well all you need is a Wireless Hub to connect into and the Wireless router for XBOX and you are in business. Now I am not saying this will work for everyone, but it did for me. Because of how Wireless connections work it routes its signal through a different port that is generally open. Good luck!

The wireless solution works? odd.

anyway, your internet connection only uses the standard web ports like 80, 443, 22, and 110/25 for some email services. I don't know right off what port the xbox uses but this is obviously blocked at the router for the dorm.
