World of Warcraft Closed Beta Ends Tomorrow (10/29)

www.worldofwarcraft.com

as of tomorrow, the Closed Beta will be OVER. they haven't said whether our characters get wiped or not. I'm sure Open Beta will be starting VERY soon now. you should have seen one of the main cities on the Alliance side.......people going APESHIT. Casting Area of Effect spells constantly, spamming the channels. You'd think the World was ending

it's been a great time. 50 levels of awesomeness for my mage!

our characters might transfer over to open beta, who knows......

You beat me to it Redjake!

It must have been quite a scene. Last day of stress test was crazy, people getting drunk, dancing naked.

Hmmm, maybe 2-3 days to get everything straightened out before we see OB? I hope...

Most WoW players seem to believe that the "Upcoming Stress Test" that Blizzard just mentioned is seperate from Open Beta. I think they're simply interchanging terms. There's really no reason for Blizzard to have another Stress Test and THEN Closed Beta. Frankly, they don't have the time. I'm *hoping* that this upcoming stress test is actually open beta.

I'm almost positive they are going to have a 1-2 day stress test for the Open Beta, and then start Open Beta really soon.

From the website..."World of Warcraft is closer than ever to being ready for launch!"

Well no fucking shit. They should just plaster that on the front page in big letters and do away with the community site. It would be true, every passing second, and would keep people from shitting themselves while refreshing the page instead of going to the bathroom. At least that's what happens to people without a laptop. *flush*

I'm taking your word. If you are wrong....well, let's just say I can't really do anything about it and even if I could I'd be out of breath before I finished, then I'd need another McGriddle.

I wonder who they would let in for the stress test? Obviously the CB people, but to stress it, won't they need some more? Eh, I'm just postulating to pass the time.

I missed out on the EQ2 beta keys from Fileplanet, mostly because I flaked out for 20 minutes the day I was home and able to try...and it happened to be a poor choice of time to flake. But if WoW opens soon, all will be well. I didn't really want to get caught up in EQ2 anyway.

How many people do they let into open betas like the one coming soon? I might be away from my computer on Monday. Is there going to be a limited amount of slots or will an unlimited amount of people be able to sign up whenever they want as long at the OB's still running?

Thanks for any info guys. And thanks for the heads-up IrishSean

Open betas are generally just that, open. It will be an unlimited amount, otherwise it would be a closed beta.

Yep. There's gonna be ANOTHER stress test that ONLY the Closed Beta folks are allowed into BEFORE Open Beta starts. Looks like your French Connection might be severed, sean. I doubt Open Beta will start tomorrow if the stress test that is gonna happen BEFORE Open Beta hasn't even started yet.

I agree with everyone. Blizzard is being a dick about this.

News spread like wildfire, it's true that it was like the world was ending in some micro-cosmic sense. And yeah, the CB characters basically have to carry over, they still need us to test everything that hasn't been added yet (talents, new pets, etc).

Well no. The closed beta people were supposed to be able to download the client first and thus would be the first ones in. That isnt the case anymore.

Anyways, the CB stress test already happened. The last two days of CB were nuts. Every one was online and killing each other, when the PvP server wasn't lagging then it was crashing. So they got their CB stress test already. Not that this should discurage people. The CB servers were never that stable and I don't think Blizz ever bothered to upgrade them even though they could have as the first ST showed.

It depends on which way you take Blizzard's wording. They're not saying Open Beta, they're saying "stress test." Why would they call the Open Beta "Stress Test" instead of "Open Beta?" It makes no sense.

Of course, I'd LOVE it if Blizzard is really talking about the Open Beta when they say "stress test," but it simply doesn't add up when they've called Open Beta by that actual name dozens of times now.

Whoops, looks like I was right all along. There's a seperate stress test happening BEFORE Open Beta starting today for the Closed Beta folks and those with a FilePlanet subscription. Open Beta is gonna start at least a week from now, possibly more. Check out WorldofWarcraft.com.

It seems that the Open Beta is "open" in that anyone is allowed in...EXCEPT THERE'S A LIMITED NUMBER OF POSITIONS FOR OPEN BETA!!!

Check out Worldofwarcraft.com ASAP in the next week to sign up for OB fast. I had no idea that Blizzard was gonna limit the amount of people into OB!

PS: Blizzard has stated that they haven't made a decision on whether OB is gonna be wiped before retail.

He's right! http://www.Worldofwarcraft.com You can't miss it However, it's not the Open Beta that has started. It's the "Final Stress Test" and you have to be a FilePlanet subscriber ($$) to be a part of it. This is going to go on for "5-7 days" begining November 1st, after which the Open Beta will open and be completely free of charge.

So, is it worth signing up to FilePlanet as a Basic Subscriber ($16) just to get into the Final Stress Test? I'm yet to find any catches at File Planet about this subscription. Is it a one-time payment of $16, or is that a monthly subscription?
http://www.fileplanet.com/subscribe/wow/2457.shtml

Thanks for any info guys

I believe $16 is the monthly FP cost. I bought an annual so I'm not sure, but it was way more than $16

It's $7.90 for 1 month, $15.95 for 90 days, or $59.95 for a year.

Don't pay to get into the beta guys. It's not worth it unless you have lots of extra money. Chances are the Open Beta characters will be deleted anyway. If I knew if OB would be deleted then I wouldn't even bother signing up.

As of now I'll definitely be playing OB because they haven't said whether they're gonna wipe OB. Playing an extra week with your characters being deleted just seems like a waste to me! That is coming from someone who's been playing since March though.
