This is what happens when someone w/ no clue mods an x-box.....
Well, this happened a few months back. I noticed on a local forum that a guy was selling an x-box mod chip ( a good one, can't think of the name off hand), so i made him an offer of $75 installed if he could in fact do the install. So, he agreed, and the next day he cam to my place and picked up the system, this was on a thursday afternoon. He had figured the x-box would be finished that night and i could meet up with him tomorrow. I had to work on the friday and I was unable to get ahold of him on his cell-phone. I went ahead and checked my pm's on my local forum, and sure enough he had left me a message.
Apparently, when trying to solder in the chip, he managed to fry something on the motherboard . When he attempted to boot up the box the screen kept flashing. His solution: he decided to buy a new x-box from future shop and swap the motherboard. this didn't solve the problem. He then went ahead and swapped all the internals including the HD. This in fact did seem to solve the problems. He then proceeded to return the x-box for a full refund at future shop. he never again attempted to install the chip, so i was left with an old x-box shell with brand new internals. You would think my problems would end here. No. The x-box proceeded to sit for the next month after i got it back. i never even tried booting it up. Sure enough, when i decided to play some co-op Halo (for the first time ever), the x-box won't boot up. No signs of power when the system is plugged in. I contacted the guy who tried to mod the system and he agreed to have a look at it. He did some testing of the plug or some shyt, and apparently there was no power coming from the system. again, his solution: go back to future shop for another swap . That solved the problem and to this day it seems to work perfectly. |

i really enjoy my modxbox. mostly because of my 4 & 5 year old. i no longer have to cringe everytime the tray is open and slammed shut. nor do i have to worry about the condition of the game disks.
i have my own "daddy's " xbox upstairs and online. i have had wonderful success with it and i urge everyone to mod it. my wife really enjoys the "dongle free" dvd player. i urge everyone to get a second box and mod it. hell, you can do it for less than $200!!!!! then, you can link em. i can't wait until the kids can play halo2 as good as me!!!!! |
