I've still got the original XCom on my computer. I swear, that game is probably the coolest and best designed squad-based / tension game ever. Takes a bit of work to get it to run in XP, though.
I'm always playing the old Squaresoft games too. Secret of Mana, FFIV, FFVI... hell, FFI for that matter...

Still play Neverwinter Nights online several times a week.
And every so often, I will load Lords of the Realm 2. Still one of the best TBS/RTS games out there.

Metal Fatigue: It's about 5 years old, but I still think that it's one of the best RTS's out there.
Dark Forces: The original! For some reason it always seems to find its way onto my pc. Hell it's really old! I used to play it with a boot disk on my 386. It's got to be almost 10 years old. |

Well, since i made my last post, i'm rolled out an Mega Drive Emulator. Now i can play Hellfire again! The game and console are sitting in my cupboard, so it's all legal and fun too!
Anyone else remember Hellfire? It's by far the best space shooty thing i've ever played. It has a great system of changing direction of fire that i haven't seen in anything else since. |

Tecmo Super Bowl - NES (Emulatorized) circa 1992.
. Best Football Game Ever Made, why stop playing it because the roster is from the 91 season? Blistex - Dark Forces, the original, is the greatest. Hooked up my joystick to that for smoother gun movements, before mouse was really big in DOS games, just awesome.

Alpha Centauri here as well. If I can find my MOO2 disc I'll load that up.
Although I did play Galaga in the laundromat yesterday. Been 20 years I think since I played it at an arcade style machine. IT COST FIFTY CENTS! wtf? I can watch the dryer for almost an hour at that rate. Prolly not as much fun though.

I recently reinstalled Doom2 and Half-Life and played through them for reasons of nostalgia and to get into the "mood" for Doom 3 and the impending Half-Life 2. Don't know if that counts, although I must say I've played through Half-Life many times over the years. It's like an old friend now.

My list for the oldest games that I play are all the Half-life games and mods. I play Halfl-life every day of my life (sad huh?). I also like playing the older Rainbow Six games, AVP2, and I still play Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. I really wish the new Jedi Knight game didn't suck as much as it did.

Sonic 2 for Genesis, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for N64... Other than that I guess Halo and Starcraft count. Oh and curse Roller Coaster Tycoon for sucking me in again, that game is disgustingly addictive... And it's not even that great.

Broke out the Secret of Mana recently for some 2-player action. On PC, I have Diablo 1 installed for some reason. Now that's an oldie, first computer game I got into really, besides old old school like the Star Control series. Now and then I break out River City Ransom on the NES emulator. Man I loved that game as a kid.

Master of Magic for PC. Its a pretty old game, but still (IMO) one of the best fantasy/strategy games ever made. I would love to see a modern sequel to the game. Coincidentally, if anyone is looking for old classics, there is a great place to find some of the oldie-but-goodies.
http://www.the-underdogs.org/about.php They have older games available for download, for free, directly from the site. They only allow downloads of games that are no longer commercially available. You can read about their site mission directly on that link. Warning, pop-up heavy site, highly suggest depleted uranium popup-blocking armor. |

On PC the oldest game is probably System Shock 2, or Diablo. I think they came out around the same time. On console I just beat Chrono Trigger and am working my way through Lunar: Silver Star Story.
For PC I mainly only play older games now a days if only for the reason that that's all it can play. Well it plays CS well enough Last edited by vangelis; 10-21-2004 at 07:05 PM.. |
