My first online experience

I just got a cable modem a couple of days ago and to celebrate I bought a Network Adapter for my PS2. After the install I decide to try it out with NBA Live 2005. After only the first quarter, I'm hooked. I was dominating this guy and having a ball at the same time. Almost the end of the third quarter and I'm up 18, then he disconnects on me. What a buzz kill. Now I'm kinda wary of playing online now because I'm afraid they'll disconnect and leave me hanging.

A lot of online games for the PS2 will penalize users who disconnect, at least in ranked games. That's no substitute for actually having opponents who aren't sore losers, but it might be some consolation!

I love online gaming. One of my pet peeves about it is people who cheat online. It takes all of the fun out of it. If you can't win with skill, practice til you can or stay OFFLINE!!!

Anyone play Amplitude online?

WELCOME TO THE INTERNET!

Everyone is the best at everything and if they get beat, then the other person is either cheating or their connection is laggy. Those are the rules. Enjoy.

Get used to people leaving, happens all the time to my CS team. If they're getting bashed they sometimes leave. If they're blatantly cheating then we kick them, good fun! Then again most of the people we play are good sports and we don't have any problems with them cheating or leaving.

My first on-line gaming experence was much different. I was playing P-51 Mustang on my TRS80 computer with a 300 baud modem and a tape drive. (And I liked it!)

I find it's best to play with friends. Not only real life ones, people you just get along with. Then they are less likely to just disconnect. I can kinda understand when some people leave when i played CS, sometimes i just ripped them to shreds. I was kinda suprised that some didn't. CS is one of those games that is only fun when you win!
Admittedly, i play more Players vs Computer or less competitive games now. (Cept for a bit of Yahoo Gin)

It has a lot to do with the game, I think too. I have heard very bad things about the people that play StarCraft, for example. Very un-friendly. I have no idea of how the PS2 online community works, but I would suggest joining a guild or website somewhere and getting to know people that way. It's more fun once you are familliar with the folks you are gaming with anyway.

Good luck.

my first online gaming experience is a recent one. I started playing ffxi about 6 months ago, It took some time for me to break down and step into the world of online gaming, but I'm glad I did take that step. For me playing ffxi is a love/hate rollercoster ride. ffxi is very party oriented, unfournatly RL obligations prevent me from playing during primetime server hours and I find myself soloing a game thats not ment to be soloed. I've been doing some reserch into WoW, and it looks like a game I could really enjoy and SOLO, but i'm torn, I don't want to thow away the time I've invested in ffxi (I do like the game quite a bit, it's just frustrating at times.)
