Sim City (2000-3000-4)

Who here plays these games?

I've only played 2000 and 3000 (and actually almost every other sim game on the market - I'm quite obsessed, really).

Just the other day I picked up 3000 after about 4 years, loaded it up and -bam- hours of my life sitting there reading the news ticker and reading about sims who are bitching and moaning about how high their taxes are. I was enthralled.

Has anyone played Sim City 4? I've heard a lot of good things, but also that the game was a big step back from 3000.

Anyone have an opinion before I go and drop some cash on it?

SimCity 4 is okay, it isn't great like the previous games. However, if you enjoy the SimCity games, you'll probably love it, though not as much as SimCity/SimCity 2000/SimCity 3000.

Sim City 4 is fun. It's 3D unlike Sim City 3000, and has lots of cool options for editing stuff. Check out Simtropolis.com, it's a great site and has tons of downloads.

I've played all of them. 2000 most extensively, then 3000 a bit, and 4 only a touch. I'd play 4 more, but my comp simply can't handle it. Between 2000 and 3000, I liked 2000 more. 3000 had some cool features, but 2000 seemed more...I dunno...something about it was more enjoyable. I think I had some sort of basic dislike for the new interface in 3000 - I don't like it when designers try TOO hard to make something streamlined.

SimCity 4 though - while I didn't get a chance to play it to a great extent - seemed pretty good. Based on the little amount I was able to play it, I liked it more than 3000, but I reserve the right to change my opinion once I get to play it more.

The long and the short of it, though, is that I love the SimCity games. Something about them is just so addictive, fun, and calming. They're so simple, yet SO entertaining :)

The game has gotten too complex. You are always so busy micromanaging you never get a chance to enjoy the city. It almost feels like work

I loved Sim City 1-3 and I liked SC4, but the game isnt fun anymore while the first 3 are still enjoyable.

I've got SC4 w/ the Rush Hour expansion loaded on my laptop for airplane rides while on business. It is pretty good but I can't lose myself in it like I used to be able to with the older version. I don't blame the game for this as I think it is more me. Very sad actually. :( Still enjoyable though.

Yeah, SC4 is a pretty sweet game, I didn't really like paying 50 bucks for it...but i've spent countless hours playing it, and a lot of the features are really great on it. Do yourself a favor, and read a few walkthroughs online first!

Totally worth it, and very rewarding in the end.

I liked the early versions better. The later ones have great graphics, but too many rules -- or at least, too many rules that you need to know before playing competently.

Of course, this is from a guy who now mostly plays java-based or flash-based games; so I've got a biased to the simple. But simple can be very, very good, if it's well thought-out.

That was one think that I didn't enjoy when it came to Sim City 3000. I put it down for years because it felt like work, as some one mentioned. Sim City 2000 was fun, you could sit down and thr ow down and have some fun, but Sim City 3000 just felt like you had to deal with too much realism all the time, which I suppose isn't actually the truth now that I've played it more then an hour or so, but I suspect the entire change in setup and adding of new things just kind of rubbed me the wrong way before I actually got to know the game.

I totally agree, simcity 4000 sucked because of that problem....I prefer 2000 and 3000....2000 is my favorite though but 3000 is great...I hate having to micromanage that crap though.....the good old days of leaving the comp on all night running simcity so the town makes money...woot

cool games are cool - until they get too complex - then i find myself gravitaing toward snood.com

i liked sc3k but sc4k wasn't as easy to jump into...
