NHL 2005 free4all !
Anyone pick up NHL 2005 yet? I have it on Xbox, and overall, the game feels rushed. The soundtrack is very short (Ive been playing Burnout3, which has 4 times the amount of songs), the commentary seems like an afterthought, and some of the physics feel weird - like player interactions - sometimes you jump to the other side of a player when trying to hit, for no reason.
Thas the bad stuff... now the good. The player animations after the plays are great. Really looks as if they are mouthing off to the refs. Being able to deke with the right analog stick is an awesome addition. And best of all, the new 'free4all' mode, lets you play with 4 players 1-on-1-on-1-on-1. Me and my friends have spent hours upon hours playing the free4all. And anyone can jump in and play. My neice (12) never played a hockey game in her life, but was dying to play after watching us have so much fun. She jumped into the next game and within a few, she was competing for the top. Overall NHL2005 feels very unpolished. I guess EA spends much more resources on it's NFL, NBA and MLB games, which is obvious, because they probably sell many more of those. But I think NHL2005 is still much better than the competition, extra $20 or not.

I got it for PS2 and don't like it at all. You're right, the soundtrack is very short and half of it is from Madden. The game does NOT support EA Sports Bio, which truly pisses me off. Roster editing has always been atrocious, but this year it's even worse. You can't create new players. You can't play multiplayer seasons. Commentary is the worst it's ever been. All in all, this is the worst NHL EA's ever done. I've been fiercely brand loyal to EA Sports since NHL99, but this is the last straw for me. I haven't tried ESPN NHL2K5 yet, but I'll be renting it this weekend. I hope EA can turn it around like they did with baseball. This year's baseball game (MVP Baseball 2004) was a huge improvement over the previous year's and kept me from jumping ship. Next year's hockey game better do the same.
